He's clearly as explosive and dominant as ever. What I like seeing is the effort and patience he's demonstrated, especially on the defensive end. He's definitely a force, now equipped with a more polished post game. Its paying off and it shows. And the misconception that he and melo cant play together can be put to rest now.

Raptors are clearly better with Gay on board now, but Heat shouldnt have any problem taking care of them. So that 1st place should stay safely with the Heat. On a side note, do you think the Knicks still have a chance to finish 2nd in the standings? Just trying to get an honest opinion.

No. He is playing well, but he is definitely not what he used to be. Whether you want to call that a "shell of his former self" or not, it's true.

He's played well since returning, but not like he did circa 2008. He was on a whole other level then.

Although, obviously what he's doing tonight is ridiculous.

2008 Amare was his physical prime but he had no post game and didn't play D at all.

Now he actually does both of these things. If he can keep this up, then there is no doubt this is the best Amare has ever been. He may not put up the numbers because we won't need him too but he is shooting 73% the last 5 games lol

 amare has been very effective when his back is to the basket.

I'll just say he hasn't sucked in the post. But majority of his baskets are front to the basket moves. It's not back to the basket, he does 1 or 2 , he's still rusty w/ it and doing that stuff against the dreks of the league bigs can sometimes make it like he's Hakeem. They are going to scout that move and then he'll revert. I think he been effective off the bench, PnR and from the elbow, he's still more go to the rim, although I do like that he's mixing it up.

Those are still post moves, if he faces up and then turns to his back to take the hook/flip shot, hes technically mixing both faceup aspects of a post game with the spatial awareness of a back to the basket move. Thats the best way to go, defenses have a harder time adjusting when you can mix it up. Its exactly what Hakeem did in his hey, only he was way more prolific and you could rely on him to find open players (at least late in his career)

hes getting deep position too. Hes mixing it up nicely, the guy

D'Antoni is too stubborn for it. He runs quick, reactive players, no matter what principle is not on used on the court, he'll sacrifice transistion D, defensive rebounding and clock, just for his offense. It's fun, but in the end can be grueling on a vet.

not saying that he's not, but really he's doing what he's doing now for his career, he has 1 or 2 post moves he's trying to work in, a spin move face up, and spin out pump fake jab step. You could have made that point alot clearer, I thought you meant Gay would be the one making the pass, a basic entree pass to the screener is something hes done throughout his career. Those kind of plays were happening in Memphis with Gasol feeding the open guy. Except Gay wasn't allowed to do it as often because hes not the PnR operator that Conley is.

And thats not a double, thats just PnR coverage. I mean do you expect the help to allow his teammate to just let the ball handler go unmolested? It was a good read on Gay's part but thats not what I thought you were talking about at all.

I even remember kobe giving us the lead vs you guys and doing his big balls dance and then Mason crushing us with his and 1 and him mocking kobe.

That was awesome!! Then to come back on the next possession and get called for a travelling was awesome, which sealed the win.

Damn, good times. We could potentially see lakers vs spurs this year in the first round.

I hope not. I've had enough of playoffs vs Kobe, and the Lakers will always be someone I'd prefer not to play. Thought D'Antoni is the coach and he's had little success against us, so I'm torn....

**** man, I take back what I say about Gay having to play the 4. Amir Johnson seems capable of offsetting his lack of outlet shooting with superb passing. When the **** did this happen, I NEVER saw this in Detroit.

hes completely different the dude surprised me over the years, his passing and even now shooting lol he actually has somewhat of respectable midrange jumper even though he falls in love with it some times.

amir is one of the underrated players in the league hes taken a huge step this year. he has a pretty reliable jumper now but he does all of the little things to help the team mainly in 50/50 situations
