Hmm, seems like they are hell bent on getting rid of that deal. Interested to see what they get in return. I really don't think the loss of Gay will be that big of a deal honestly, he is not having a very good year.

Toronto is basically getting a deal of a lifetime. They have a playoff team with Gay.

Derozan has been much better than Gay this year, and actually Derozan this year is comparable to Gay's prior 5 years. The upgrade TOR is getting at the wing is minor if any.

But they lose their starting PG and a budding 23 year old PF and get to pay Gay $18m per when Derozan costs them only $10m? Those 2 don't compliment each other at all... its the same player at SG & SF.

I don't get this deal for TOR. They will now be paying over $25m per for Gay & Fields... think about that for a second. Almost 50% of your cap space tied up on 2 players that really aren't stars, let alone superstars.

I don't necessarily mean better talent, more a long the lines of filling needs. I can't see Calderon or Davis really contributing all that much towards the Grizz competing for a title. Conley and Randolph are pretty good at their positions so giving them both high end back ups doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

you overrate Rudy Gay. The guy takes 16.4 shots to score 17.2 ppg, his free throw drawing ability continues to drop by the year, he is an average defender, with a TS% of 48 (league average is 53), and an offensive rating of 98 (good starter hovers from 100-107, star from 111+). And yet he is signed for another $8 million this year, and $37 million over the next 2 years.

Are the Grizz moving Randolph? Davis would provide depth and a motor, Calderon is a better bench option than Bayless, and the Grizz save a ton of money on a deal they should have never offered.

Gay will be more efficient and have more points a game in Toronto because he will be the #1 option and not jack up shots because he knows the offense runs through Randolph and Gasol

A small point, but your percentages are a bit off. Toronto will be targeting spending to just below the lux limit. They have been frugal up to this point due to the sale of MLSE. The new ownership is focused on content for their sports channels and will be buyers in this market.

Hawk I agree with you but you need to see some more Grizz games.
1.Rudy gay is playing with Tony Allen one if not the worst offensive SG in the NBA.
2.He is the 3rd option in Memphis.
3.He takes alot of last second shots with people on his face because of Tony Allen and Mike Conley(they don't make their own shot)
4.Memphis is all Defense players have to get back no matter what and Rudy Gay plays ALOT of minutes hurting his offense.

I'm not saying he is lebron but a fresh star just Mayo in Dallas could help him.

The Memphis Grizzlies and Toronto Raptors have agreed in principle on a trade that will send leading scorer Rudy Gay to the Raptors, according to sources with knowledge of the deal.

Sources told ESPN.com that the Grizzlies will acquire forward Ed Davis and veteran guard Jose Calderon from the Raptors and then move Calderon on to a third team to ultimately make this a three-team deal.

The Detroit Pistons, sources said, are one of the prime options to take on Calderon, having pursued the Spanish floor leader all season.

The Grizzlies want a small forward out of the trade and Detroit has two on its roster in the final year of their contract: Tayshaun Prince and Corey Maggette. But Memphis, sources said, is talking to at least one other team about taking on Calderon and is expected to receive a second-round pick from Toronto as part of the deal.

The Raptors, sources said, are expected to take on Grizzlies reserve center Hamed Haddadi in addition to Gay.

The Dallas Mavericks are the other most likely landing spot for Calderon, but sources said Dallas is resistant to parting with Vince Carter, Memphis' prime target on the Mavs' roster

So

Lowry - Ross - Gay - Bargs - Val?

I'm surprised Davis was traded, thought Toronto really liked him and he was the perfect PF for that team.
They really should look into trading Bargs.

I really don't get Toronto's obsession with funky offensive Forwards like this.
Landry Fields, James Johnson a while back, now Rudy Gay.

BC is gay thats why.

Say what you want about Gay but he is a hell of a lot better than Fields or James Johnson.

We get rid of the 2 bummiest players in the NBA and get a solid PG.

I'll take it.

That's ****ed that he is probably going to the Pistons. No playoffs for Calderon. A player I want to see in the playoffs.

At first glance--this being the NBA thread and all--I read that as "Iguodala, Koalas and Komodo dragons . . . "

:laugh2:
