View Full Version : Who earns 2nd playoff spot behind Heat?

01-29-2013, 02:49 PM
I guess we can assume the Heat will grab the top spot in the east. Who gets 2 and 3? And will it matter??

01-30-2013, 12:13 AM
Ill go with my Pacers...If not them, then the Knicks...

01-30-2013, 12:16 AM
Bulls, although pacers and nets have a good chance too.

Heat will earn the 2nd playoff spot in the East.

1. Knicks
2. Bulls (the return)
3. Heat (unless they add a big who can guard the paint.)

Bulls should and they are the only team who stands a chance to beat the Heat if Rose is healthy. Without Rose they will prob get bounced 1st round like last year

Bulls or Nets, although the Heat might drop to 2nd if they don't get their **** together.

01-30-2013, 01:30 PM
It's not a foregone conclusion that the Heat will have the # 1 spot. You say it as if they have this huge lead

Any of those top 4 teams are all capable of getting that #1 seed.

Knicks and Bulls both have defensive centers (Chandler and Noah) with scorers (Melo/STAT and D-Rose/Boozer) along with a defensive coach (Although Thibs is much more proven imo than Woody). The difference between them is that the Knicks tend to go more for the ball movement with outside shots while the Bulls focus on the core basics with easier shots. Seeing as the Heat have superb perimeter defenders in LeBron and Battier, it's a bit tougher matchup for the Knicks to get those open threes whereas the Bulls can grind to the basket with their more physical play. While I still believe the Knicks are going to land the #2 seed, I think if any Eastern team, the Bulls have the better chance against the Heat in a 7 game series if D-Rose can make it back into game shape. I don't want to overhype him, but he's an integral part of their offense because without him, it just puts way too much stress on players like Luol Deng.

I'm calling Knicks/Bulls 2/3 seed and Nets/Pacers 4/5 seed. Boston follows up after that and Hawks at 7th. 8th I'm thinking Milwaukee or Philly because the rest of the Eastern Conference doesn't look too good right now.

Knicks took a dump on the Heat this season so ill say we have a chance at the 1 seed. I dont really care what seed we have as long as our players are healthy.

01-30-2013, 01:58 PM
The Nets should be on this poll.

I think it's a tossup between NYK, CHI and BK. Gun to my head: 1. MIA 2. BK 3. CHI 4. NYK 5. IND

I think the Knicks will be the 2nd seed. And the Bulls will be 3rd.

I'm not sure at this point who has the best chance at beating the Heat in a series. Melo has proven that he'll dominate Battier, and Spolestra will look to go with Battier on him first and Lebron 2nd. I like the depth the Knicks have and could cause problems for the Heat on the boards. And, I think Stat is the X-factor because if he can make Bosh work defensively, I think the Knicks will do some damage in the series.

I like the ability of the Bulls to play physical against the Heat in the post. Boozer has got to have a better series against Bosh and Noah's energy will be very important to set the tone for the team. The Bulls have got to find another wing player who can beat people off the dribble and create his own shot because I'm sure the Heat will start the series out like they ended it against the Bulls last year and trap Rose as soon as he gets past half court. That and Lebron guarding him was the key for stopping Rose. If they meet this year, the Bulls have to take advantage of other areas and not look for Rose to bail them out.

The correct answer is "who cares, because the East is watered down and they'll just get beat by the Heat in the ECF anyway." But if I had to make a prediction I'd go with the Knicks or Bulls. If Rose comes back, it's definitely Chicago. The Nets have an outside shot, too, and should be included in this poll because they've played some damn good basketball lately.

01-30-2013, 02:16 PM
Bulls, although pacers and nets have a good chance too.

Maybe if it was game 10 of the season. Unrational to think the knicks (the current #2) dont have a chance at this point, especially when they're starting to get healthy. If anything, expect them to turn it up and solidify the the 2.

01-30-2013, 02:19 PM
Ill go with the Knicks or bulls.

All depends on Rose's recovery. If he's back 100% by late regular season, the Bulls could easily grab the 2 seed. I think it's between the Knicks and the Bulls. Healthy Shumpert and Felton will make the Knicks much more dangerous than they have been lately.

it's still too early to say. seeds 1-7 are only 5 games apart with 35+ games left. a bad/good run by any combination of teams could change the east entirely...

I just don't understand the assumption that what has been a flawed team (there is no great team in the East this year) and only 1-1/2 games up midway through the season is the sure thing #1. Is this because they finish #1 every year? Because they have yet to have the #1 seed with better teams the last 2 years. I'm voting the Heat at #2.

01-30-2013, 02:45 PM
That 1st seed is not out of reach at all. If Rose don't come back then the Knicks get the 2nd seed but if Rose comes the Knicks gets the 3rd seed, the heat gets the 2nd seed and the 1st belongs to the Bulls again for the 3rd time in a row.

01-30-2013, 02:51 PM
2.5 games out and you add D.Rose... The Heat will be the 2nd seed

01-30-2013, 03:03 PM
Heat will earn the 2nd playoff spot in the East.

Bold. I love it.

01-30-2013, 03:06 PM
If Rose can return to form quickly, Bulls could definitely grab one or two spot.

01-30-2013, 03:07 PM
Rosť won't be ready until after the Allstar break. He also won't be back to 35+ min rose until prob march ish. Heat-Knicks-bulls will all be in it for the 1 seed.

01-30-2013, 03:14 PM
I wouldn't doubt if the Bulls end up with the #1 seed again, barring injury to anyone else of course.

01-30-2013, 03:17 PM
I just hope the Bulls and Knicks play each other in the playoffs. That would be great seeing D Rose light up the Knicks at MSG.

Miami (28-13)
Games remaining: 41 (20 Home, 21 Away)
vs. +.500: 18, vs. East: 31

New York Knicks (27-15)
Games remaining: 40 (20 Home, 20 Away)
vs. +.500: 20, vs. East: 27

Chicago (27-17)
Games remaining: 38 (15 Home, 23 Away)
vs. +.500: 21, vs. East: 24

Brooklyn (27-18)
Games remaining: 37 (17 Home, 20 Away)
vs. +.500: 18, vs. East: 23

Indiana (26-19)
Games remaining: 37 (22 Home, 15 Away)
vs. +.500: 17, vs. East: 28

Atlanta (25-19)
Games remaining: 38 (19 Home, 19 Away)
vs. +.500: 18, vs. East: 25

The Pacers probably have the most favorable schedule going forward. Just 17 games vs teams with winning records, 60% of their games are at home, and their longest remaining road trip is just four games (@HOU, @DAL, @PHX, @LAC).

01-30-2013, 03:27 PM
We're at the half way point no D.Rose and you only manage a 2.5 lead...BULLS AND D.ROSE get it done easy #1 seed....30 games after the Allstate break and the bulls still play the heat and Knicks....Bulls
