I know this is not the Bulls forum but I just wanted to hear some other NBA fans opinions on how he has been playing lately! Do you think if he develops a shot could he be the scorer the Bulls need next to Rose?

if he can be the bulls would be nasty. i think right now rose is enough to get the bulls into the conference finals/finals. bulls and okc have bright futures. who is the euro sg you guys have drafted that is supposed to be good too?

He is a PF, Nikola Mirotic! He has a nasty 3 point shot from what I have been reading, not really sure when he will be in a Bulls uni though!

He reminds me of Shumpert on the defensive end. Butler's offensive game is better than Shumpert's though imo.

Hopefully he can add a consistent jumper. You see flashes of that at times though.

I'd be lying if I said the kid didn't excite me.

I love, love, love this guy.

Ask AP=MVP about my love for this guy. When he was coming out of Marquette, I wanted so badly for the Lakers to nab this guy.

I thought he would be a starter for the Bulls full-time by the mid-way point this year, but it doesn't look like it will be. But I wouldn't be shocked to see him start for them next year at the 2 spot.

All he needs is to be more consistent with his jumper & this kid is an IDEAL, IDEAL role/wing player.

He looks like a solid player and will help on the defensive end. hopefully Rose comes back healthy.

Great young player. Would've been a nice first round pick had he not been injured. He's a Shumpert type player from what i've seen. Not quite as tenacious on defense though.

I would have to agree with this. They even kind of look the same. I'd bet Shumpert's wingspan is what separates them physically.

I like Butler because he gives the Bulls depth. If he develops a shot he could start at the two.

I don't think you've seen enough of his defense then. He'll never get the steals but that's because he doesn't like to gamble. But his man defense is ridiculous.

It's hilarious when you see who the last person to post was, and you can guess exactly what the person said.

Jimmy Butler is a very good player, mixes in perfectly with the Bulls. Love the team dynamic there in Chicago.

Him and Iman are two of my favorite players

they play pretty similar, with the slight edge to iman as of now, cause of the experience

He's been a huge bonus for the Bulls this year. If he can improve his jumper a bit more, I wouldn't mind a lineup of Rose/Butler/Deng/Boozer/Noah for the Bulls going forward. Would make it hard for Lebron to guard Rose again in the playoffs.

Comparing butler and shump doesn't make sense. Shump is a combo guard with a better shot. Although Butler might be better offensively slightly, shump is a better defender. Either way shump is a SG butler is a SF.

Kid got potential thou

lebron only guarded rose in key situations.

that lineup would be so nasty defensively minus boozer.

I'm not sure about the second part. Shumpert has shown flashes of being a solid offensive player too. Both need to devolp a consistent jumper. I do like butler and his defense is scary good

how did this become butler vs shump? both are good young players and both are great defenders. Having either is good for any team. Butler will give you more boards, shump is the better play maker

Iman Shumpert IS incredibly talented. That's true. He also may or may not be as good at defense as Jimmy. I don't know, I haven't seen enough of him. But I don't need to see anything from him to know this:

He has no offensive game. None. That's not ME being unobjective, if you disagree that is your inability to be objective. Let's look at some numbers!

We all know he's been awful from the field this year, and it's a super small sample size. So I am going to use last years numbers:

40.2% from the field. That's livable if you do certain things well enough, like get to the line and hit free throws. Well, Shumpert is fine from the line, shoots about 80%. But here's the problem, he has a piss poor free throw rate. Don't confuse "free throw rate" with "free throws per game" last year his free throw rate was .20 (it's .15 this year) that is below average, league average is about .277. (Butler: 40.5/48.8, 77%/86%, .71/.43) All those are his last year/this year numbers for the various things listed. I'm sure you can place them).

Let's look at how he did from the floor then! I'll use SG league averages for this, because it's obviously very different depending on position.

At the rim he scores about 61.6% of the time and league average is about 64.3%, so we can call him average. (48.4/73.4)

From 3-9 feet he shot 22.0% league average is about 38.6% and he just didn't take many there, let's call it Small Sample Size and say he's probably average from there, because let's be honest, it's 3-9 feet and he only took .8 attempts per game. (41.7/15.4 (only .3 attempts per game)

10-15 feet: 28.1%. That is awful. The league average is 41.6% But hey, we can attribute that to small sample as well, I guess. He didn't take that many. (60%/40%)

Finally, we have 16-23 feet, Shumpert hit about 36% of the time from that distance, which is just a shade below league average. (35%/38%)

Now that we've taken a look at that, we can poke at Turnover rate, his is about 16%. League average? 10.1% (11.9/6.8)

Offensive rebounding rate? 2.8% compared to the league average of 3%. (7.3/7.9)

So ultimately, Shumpert is, in every aspect of offense, average-ish/slightly below average to bad.

Literally in every single aspect. And it can all be summed up nicely by the following number:

.485ts%. That is terrible. The league average is .53. (.526/.580)

And you really don't want to bring up this year, because he's got a .360.

So please don't tell me I'm not being objective. Compared to Shumpert, Butler is Michael Jordan offensively.

Again, this doesn't take away from the fact that Shumpert is RIDICULOUSLY talented. He's a freak of nature athlete. But right now, Jimmy Butler is his superior in every conceivable way offensively and I don't know Shumpert's rate stats defensively, but I know he has a helluva reputation, so I imagine it's at worst pretty close to a wash on that side of the ball.
welp

I really want to see him in the Rookie vs Sophmore game.

He has been balling and surprised me big time with his smartness, suffocating defense, stamina, athleticism and just intangibles he brings.

Man, if Rose comes back healthy and atleast 80% of himself then I say watchout.

I'm first to admit I was pissed when we passed on Marshon Brooks for Butler. But this kid has really grown on me and I'm glad we picked him. His D is incredible and once his offense develops, he could eventually be a really solid 2 guard.
