View Full Version : Lakers/Atlanta Trade Idea

If Howard isn't happy in LA with Kobe and Gasol because he's not a first option, then he would be a hard guy to please anywhere.

The Lakers send Dwight Howard and Steve Blake to the Atlanta Hawks for Josh Smith, Devin Harris and Zaza Pachulia.

This gives them a serviceable center with Pachulia who can grab rebounds and won't demand touches on the offensive end. They also get Josh Smith, who also doesn't need many touches on the offensive end while being able to pass, rebound and defend. Devin Harris gives them a viable backup point guard. The big plus is that all three are expiring contracts, so they're not committed long term to any of them. They could easily re-sign Josh Smith if he works out, which I think he will. Smith, at 27 years old and in his prime, could be a long term solution at the SF for the Lakers.

Line up:

PG Steve Nash - Devin Harris - Chris Duhon
SG Kobe Bryant - Jodie Meeks
SF Josh Smith - Meta World Peace - Devin Ebanks
PF Pau Gasol - Antawn Jamison - Earl Clark
C Zaza Pachulia - Jordan Hill - Robert Sacre

There was a good chance the Hawks would of lost Smith to free agency this Summer anyways, so getting a chance to convince a hometown product like Howard would be a great gamble. They will also hold the option of sign and trading him to a team with the ability to get plenty of talent in return. A piece like Howard could help turn this franchise around, even though they're not doing too bad now.

Line up:

PG Jeff Teague - Jannero Pargo - Steve Blake
SG John Jenkins -
SF Kyle Korver - Anthony Tolliver
PF Al Horford - Mike Scott
C Dwight Howard - Johan Petro

The Hawks wouldn't trade Smith in this scenario, he's the key to retaining Howard. Instead, they would send Horford to LA so he and Pau can (finally) play their natural positions, PF and C respectively.

Something like...

Howard - Johnson - Petro
Smith - Tolliver
Korver - Scott - Stevenson
Jenkins - Morrow
Teague - Pargo - Blake

Gasol - Pachulia - Sacre
Horford - Clark
World Peace - Jamison
Bryant - Meeks
Nash - Harris - Duhon
