Anderson Varejao recently developed a blood clot in his lung and is out for the season.

A bad break gets worse for Varejao, who is now officially done for the season, according to the Cavs. Varejao just had surgery for a small split in his right quad, and he is expected to remain at the Cleveland Clinic to be treated and monitored. The good news is that he's expected to make a full recovery. This locks Tristan Thompson and Tyler Zeller in as the starting frontcourt for the remainder of the season. Thompson is averaging 10.3 points, 9.3 rebounds, 0.8 steals and 0.7 blocks as the starting power forward, while Zeller is averaging 10.3 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.6 blocks as the starting center.

@ESPNSteinLine: Incredibly sad/unfair: Cavs announce Anderson Varejao developed blood clot in lung after leg surgery that will cost him remainder of season

Via twitter. He was having a great season that's just a huge loss.

CLE should have sold high on him, they could have gotten some very nice pieces for their future for him

Sucks, Wonder if the Cavs knew about it and were trying to trade him before it broke to the media?

Just brutal. With his history with injury, I feel for the guy. Best of luck in his recovery.

I feel bad for Kyrie.

The Varejao trade would have helped them a lot in the long run.

It's a shame that such a talented player has missed so much time. He is perhaps the best rebounder in the league.

I doubt it. If you know a injury you have to disclose it. Remember OKC knew of greens injury and lost some draft picks and I think got fined.

He went down so early in the season. I'm sure they planned on it...but few teams ever make trades that early in the season. It often helps to wait for teams to get desperate.

Sucks for all parties involved.

Feel bad for AV. You do not want to **** around with a pulmonary embolism. Bad business.

You dont know about a blood clot ahead of time. Its an emergency complication that just happens, especially after surgery, and can be life threatening. They cant be predicted. And for the guy that said hes made of glass, blood clots have absolutely nothing to do with injuries. They just happen.

It seems like the Cavs luck keeps getting worse and worse.

They have his bird rights and all of that, right?
Sounds like a sign and trade is brewing this Summer.
