View Full Version : How good will Hasheem Thabeet be?

How good do you guys think he will be? He was the number 2 pick in the 2009 draft by the Grizzlies, everyone said this guy had a lot of potential once his offensive game came along. They don't make much 7'3 centers these days. When you watch him play he's getting a lot more confident, he's 25 years old now.

Check out his stats in only 12 minutes per game. He's efficient.

I think he can be pretty good. He's obviously a project and it takes a lot of big men a years to develop. People (and Memphis) have given up on him too quickly. If he is fortunate enough to go to a good situation with some good coaches who know how to develop young centers and play alongside some solid veteran big men, there's a chance he could live up to the potential somewhere down the road.

Again, it often takes a number of big men a few years to develop... he's only 25 too.

The problem is, the league has gone small, so it will be hard for the coach to find time for him.

What he currently is as a backup

He won't be any good. Its been a couple years and he still hasn't developed yet? See Darko for reference for #2 draft pick 7 feet+ bust.

Darko has actually been a serviceable backup. No one is expecting Thabeet to be a star, but I can see him being the starter when Perkins leaves.

He's still averaging 2 fouls in his limited playing time so he still looks like a shotblocking role player at best. I don't think he's any better than Wolves D-League call-up Chris Johnson who also figures to be a bit of a shotblocking role-player and who went undrafted years ago. Someone mentioned Darko as well, who again was best as a limited minnutes shotblocking role player.
