View Full Version : Kevin Durant only has one 50 point game

Kevin Durant is clearly one of the best scorers ever. Are we missing out on some great performances because he is on a stacked team and has Westbrook as a teammate?

Not that it's a bad thing to have a good team and I'm sure he isn't complaining but it would be cool to see what he could do with a bad team.

Dude also has 24 40 point games. Took him over 50 fewer games than Kobe to get there too.

Why people put so much value on big scoring games in the regular season has always baffled me.

Any GOAT level scorer can drop 50, 60 arguably more if they WANT it especially VS bad teams in the regular season.

It's why I don't think 06 Kobe was this god tier scorer.

What impresses me is good volume, efficient and consistent scoring in the playoffs especially VS tough teams and defenses.

Westbrook get the blame (praise?) but not Harden?

Well Harden in OKC took half the shot attempts Westbrook did and was a far more efficient player

Not to say I don't like Westbrook, he's a very exciting player to watch, but the amount of 50+ pt games Durant can get are definitely capped to an extent by Westbrook

In the last 25 years there have only been 7 guys with more than one 50 point game by age 24 (Link (http://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/pgl_finder.cgi?request=1&player_id=&match=career&year_min=&year_max=&age_min=0&age_max=24&team_id=&opp_id=&is_playoffs=N&round_is_ec1=Y&round_is_ecs=Y&round_is_ecf=Y&round_is_wc1=Y&round_is_wcs=Y&round_is_wcf=Y&round_is_fin=Y&game_num_type=&game_num_min=&game_num_max=&game_month=&game_location=&game_result=&is_starter=&is_active=&is_hof=&pos_is_g=Y&pos_is_gf=Y&pos_is_f=Y&pos_is_fg=Y&pos_is_fc=Y&pos_is_c=Y&pos_is_cf=Y&c1stat=pts&c1comp=gt&c1val=50&c2stat=&c2comp=gt&c2val=&c3stat=&c3comp=gt&c3val=&c4stat=&c4comp=gt&c4val=&order_by=age)).
He's also 6th on the list of most 40 point games by 24, and has the rest of the season to add to that tally (link (http://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/pgl_finder.cgi?request=1&player_id=&match=career&year_min=&year_max=&age_min=0&age_max=24&team_id=&opp_id=&is_playoffs=N&round_is_ec1=Y&round_is_ecs=Y&round_is_ecf=Y&round_is_wc1=Y&round_is_wcs=Y&round_is_wcf=Y&round_is_fin=Y&game_num_type=&game_num_min=&game_num_max=&game_month=&game_location=&game_result=&is_starter=&is_active=&is_hof=&pos_is_g=Y&pos_is_gf=Y&pos_is_f=Y&pos_is_fg=Y&pos_is_fc=Y&pos_is_c=Y&pos_is_cf=Y&c1stat=pts&c1comp=gt&c1val=50&c2stat=&c2comp=gt&c2val=&c3stat=&c3comp=gt&c3val=&c4stat=&c4comp=gt&c4val=&order_by=age)).

Really, if you're watching KD and feel like you're 'missing out' because of numbers or records or whatever, then I don't really know what to tell you.

Actually that could be misleading when you consider the fact that Harden gets to the line at such a great rate. Many occasions where he was making attempts at the basket he was fouled and the "attempt" was negated.

Durant is the type of player that is willing to sacrifice his scoring for the betterment of his team (much like LeBron) unlike others that have come before them.

Yup, usage rate is probably better than FGA there.

And agree about the second point, too. Good post.

Same can be said for Westbrook thou, they both went to the line 6 times roughly

6 times on 19 FGA while Harden is 6 times on 10 FGA. Huge difference.

That's only if the goal for each player is to see who can shoot the ball more...
