Sorry if there is already a thread for this but i was just wondering who you guys feel will end up winning defensive player of the year.

To me it seems like so far there is no clear cut favorite, Lebron and Chandler arent quite at the level they were last year, and Dwight is still not 100%. At this point my vote would go to Paul George. I will be honest and admit I rarely have time to watch games not involving the blazers so maybe there are some candidates Im not yet aware of.

Probably Noah or Iblaka. Honorable mention to Hibbert although while it shouldn't I think his fall to offensive putridity will hurt even his DPOY love.

My vote would go to Noah.

He won't win but here's a little diddy about P.J. Tucker:

http://www.azcentral.com/sports/suns/articles/20130113phoenix-suns-forward-pj-tuckers-d-making-opponents-take-notice.html

Against the Heat, Lebron told Coach Gentry that he was going to 'foul out his boy', referring to Tucker.
Lebron had a rough scoring game whenever Tucker guarded him and didn't come close to fouling out.

I think Noah has been great this year.

Maybe Larry Sanders could get it but he might not be house hold name enough for it.

Larry Sanders has been great, Tony Allen continues to do what he does, same for Noah. Old man Timmy is doing amazing things at his age on the defensive end. (#1 in Defensive Rating, #2 in defensive win shares behind Paul George)

We'll see if anyone really stands out in the 2nd half of the season I guess. Still a lot of options

Here's another link with some of the big guys and their rim protection #'s.

On topic, Sanders, but he won get it.

Would be nice for a guy like Larry Sanders to win it. Not too many people know him and he's improving his game every year it seems.

Larry Sanders should be in the discussion. I think it would make sense if we are still number one in defense by the end of they year that Hibbert or Paul George should get consideration.

And yea, I agree. A lot of guys who deserved it don't get it.

It's between Sanders and Duncan IMO

PER 36 minutes:

Duncan: 20ppg 11.5 rpg 1,0 spg 3,2bpg
Sanders: 11,5ppg 12,2rpg 1,2spg 4,7bpg

DRTG

Duncan: 94
Sanders: 95
+ their teams are not even top 10 in defense.

These 2 guys are definitely holding it down defensively.

But in regards to your last sentence:

Spurs are #3 in DRTG and the Bucks #8

If you're looking at DefEff the Spurs are #4 and the Bucks are #7.

Just thought I'd through this out there, but when determining at how well a players individual defensive performance DRTG is a pretty bad stat.
