Straight from the department of misleading titles.

nah, we should just sign napoli already.

I assume we'll kick the tires hard on Morse, but I don't know if his career has real legs to it. If Napoli falls through then I expect Morse is one of the top possibilities.

Problem is that the Sox want to deal 4 ponies for a stud, and I think his team would be looking for an impact spec instead.

I like Napoli more especially since it'll cost specs and probably Breslow.

A LH reliever and a prospect may be worth talking to the Nationals about.

They have Desmond. No use for Iggy

Breslow and A OF Prospect And maybe low end RP in farm system

Nope. You're talking trading a Shetland Pony and two "My little ponies" for a proven ML hitter that's a boderline stud, at a position of need for us.

It's going to take more if we want him - which I'm not sure is worthwhile.

This late in the offseason, I wouldn't be surprised if we settled on a cheap 1 year deal for an Aubry Huff, Casey Kotchman or Lyle Overbay.

Why oh why did we trade Sands.... a lonely nation turns its eyes to you.

Overbay might make an OK platoon v RHP. Huff and Kotchman are probably toast.

yuck

I think we should go out and sign Scott Rolen for 1st Base minor league deal or 1year league minimum salary.

Jim Thome maybe good club house vet.
Casey K :(
Dan Johnson :(
Travis Hafner ?? Not Bad Idea

Morse shouldn't cost that much.

I see his value as not too much different than Kendrys Morales, who netted a year of Jason Vargas. Meh.

Hes definitely better than Morales to be fair.

Actually I think I wrote about a month ago sign Rolen, and move WMB to 1B. Could work. Need a top back-up at 3B.

yes. cheaper option & i think Morse overrated imo. also Carp is undercontrol till 2017 & as for Morse he would be a FA next year.

They were pretty much even last year, so I don't think that's a given. And Morse was hurt at the beginning of the year.

No thanks. Let's concentrate on getting Napoli with the team or another free agent first baseman.

Yes Carp is under control long than Morse but Morse is a better hitter. How is more controlled years of a mediocre hitter at 1B good for this team?

For a player with one year before FA? Personally I'm not dealing 3-for-1 in this scenario, especially after the precipitous drop in his slash.

Cross-posting this link (http://www.fangraphs.com/fantasy/index.php/the-michael-morse-approach/) for the discussion. My fear with Morse is that the quick drop in slash is a nod in the direction of his peak being over.

Please explain. Morales has a slightly lower slash (119 career OPS+ vs 126 for Morse) with more even distribution. Morales is also an above-average defender at 1B who actually plays the majority of his time at the position. Morse, by contrast, is slightly below average at 1B who has played only 30% of his time at 1B... and has played less 1B as time has progressed.

I used 3YA (for Morales 4 years b/c of missed 2011) and it was offensively speaking. Morales' numbers are on a downward path over that time as well. They both had down years offensively this year I would say, but Morales' stats show a more blatant decline.

Defensively Morse was good at 1B until 2011 when he was scary bad (-7 DRS). I'm not so sure what to expect from his defensively at 1st as a regular there.

Personally I wouldn't be too excited for either of them.

Woulda been nice, but we should be fine with our 39 million dolar guy with a bum hip! Now the prayer is we can lower the $ and years & hope it all works out. The way everybody talks about our farm we shouldnt have to sign anybody anytime soon! Anytime we mention a prospect in a trade nobody wants to give them up! News flash........ teams dont trade good players for trash!

This team is not going to win the WS in '13 or '14, so there is no need to trade specs for retreads and/or unproven players. For a change the Red Sox should be sellers the next two years as well fall out of it.

My point is I don't want Morse, and I doubt they want a couple of pieces of dried dog **** for him. Academic.
