All joking aside I think the lines are as follows:

Nash-Richards-Cally
Gabby-Stepan-Kreider
Haglin-Boyle-Rupper
Some combo yet to be determined

As for D lines I agree with what IamRanger put.

What about Pyatt?

Much more likely to see 3rd line minutes than Rupp I think. Pyatt was playing 12-13 mins a night all year last year. Rupp saw 6 1/2 or so, and only played 60 games.

Last year, the devils beat us because we could not score with our 3rd and 4th lines whereas the Devils would find great production from those same lines.

I don't want torts to once again stack the first 2 lines and "hope for the best" with the remaining lines. Keep Hagelin on the first line, that seemed to work last year. Put Nash on the 2nd line and maybe even throw Cally on the 3rd line.

We are fortunate enough to have some very good defensive forward that we can mix around throughout line up, as well as some good/great defensemen. Defense is not my worry. We need to find consistent scoring from lines 1-3.

Edit:

Offensive depth is even more paramount in a situation like this year where there will be a condensed schedule. We can't have guys playing major mins 3 nights in a row.

Anybody know what the cap is for this year? I heard a team can buyout 2 contracts, any truth to that?

70.2 from what i remember. And yes you can buyout 2 deals

Gilroy is with the whale and you can buy out two players after this season is completed because the cap will go down.

Much more likely to see 3rd line minutes than Rupp I think. Pyatt was playing 12-13 mins a night all year last year. Rupp saw 6 1/2 or so, and only played 60 games.

When making my lineup I completely forgot about Pyatt, he will probably play on the 3rd or 4th line.

I also see Gaborik and Nash split up. Cally will probably play on the top line with Nash and Richards while Gaborik plays on the 2nd with Kreider and Stepan.

Third and fourth lines are weak. Might want to take a look at Arnott, etc.

IAmARanger18
01-07-2013, 01:50 PM
I wouldn't say weak, Halpern is very good at faceoffs and if you remember the series against the Devils they killed us in them. Also adding Pyatt and Asham added something on the 4th line which we lost when Prust left, plus Pyatt can probably get around 10 goals this year.

We just needed more grit and toughness on those bottom pairings and faceoff ability and we did that with those 3.

Great to have hockey back!

Though I can't see Kreider on the 2nd line, might not even make the big club judging by how he's been playing in the AHL. Would be nice if he did though, awesome dynamic to have and could really stand to learn a lot from Nash.

then line two have Kreider Stepan and Gaborik

Lol @ the people who think Torts is going to put Kreider on the 1st or 2nd line. The guy has been invisible in Hartford...

IAmARanger18
01-08-2013, 02:00 PM
Hes learning more about the game dude...

So what he hasn't been scoring, hes been working on the defensive side of the game which in the playoffs showed, he needs to work in the corners, be stronger on the puck, we play in a defensive system which is what he worked on in the AHL. The scoring will come.

NYY09
01-08-2013, 07:13 PM
I hope he gets top-6 minutes as much as next guy but I just dont see it with everything that comes with a shortened season.

ShadyOne

Surprised people don't think Kreider will have a role here, or even play at all..

I know he has some things to work on, but it isn't like he dissapointed anyone in what we saw of him. Regardless of his age, or whatever defensive issues he may have, he has game-breaking ability, and you can never have enough guys that can do that. He was heavily hyped, and for good reason.

Even if he is a guy who's minutes depend on matchups/in-game situations, he will be here, and will play. Even if he comes out mostly for spot-shifts, when we need offense, or PP time, he will be there.

Him, Gabs, Nash, Hags, Richards, Callahan, etc, tons of firepower out there..

Perhaps its one of those "playing up or down to your competition"? He looked like a beast in the playoffs!

This. Kreider did enough late in the season to earn solid minutes in 2013.

This link pretty much sums up how I think our team shapes up. I assume they'll want to see Gaborik and Stepan stay together though so Callahan likely moves up.

Thanks man this was really helpful actually. Lots of new guys on the backend of the depth chart.

Kreider will be in the top 6. Its one of Callahan or Hagelin who will be on the third line and honestly i think we may see Cally with Boyle and Pyatt on line 3. Now don't attack me but these lines would be killer.

Hagelin-Richards-Nash
Kreider-Stepan-Gaborik
Pyatt-Boyle-Cally
Rupp-Halpern-Asham/Haley

That top 9 is hands down one of the best in the league.

Either way works, but the only thing I'd worry about is if Cally goes with Nash/Richards, would that leave the Hags/Gabs/Step line a little lacking in size/physicality? I'd think Callahan and Nash would be separate, I know Callahan isn't scaring anyone, but he plays big..

Just thinking, how about Nash/Stepan/Gabs and then Hagelin/Richards/Callahan?

Really, though, any of them work. Would be even better IMO if Kreider moves up to one of the top 2 lines, and Hagelin moves down..

I agree with your second thought but I think Torts will want to have one of Gaborik or Nash playing with Richards to spread out the skill over the two lines and since Gaborik played better with Stepan than Richards last year it only makes sense that Nash gets to play with Richards.

That was pretty cool and as a fan I appreciated the farewells to some of the former players. I kind of needed a video like that to get pumped for the season. I just want to have a fun entertaining season. I hope Torts allows the creative guys on the team some room to create or make mistakes. At the end of the day I really want to enjoy watching the games win or lose.

I think the top 3 lines will be…

"We thank the fans for all their support."

"It wasn't about the money."

"It's the fan's game."

They had a lot of time to figure out schedules during the lockout but by this taking so long to make a schedule I get the feeling we may have been closer to no season at all than I previously believed.

Yeah,I am pretty sure we saw a tentative schedule the night the NBA settled their CBA. This is really weird.

Of all the players from last year not returning, I am going to miss Prust the most but there was no way we could have paid him that money.

I wonder how Kreider plays this year too.

He didn't do particularly well in the AHL, i would have to expect some growing pains and i am sure teams have made adjustments to his style of play.
