Serious problems are headed the Lakers way is they don't win this game.

DanG
01-06-2013, 07:09 AM
We really need this one. We can't go on a tough roadtrip with a losing streak.

Dwight has to play or we're screwed. You can see a trade coming if Dwight decides not to play and we lose. Pau has to bring his A game

Howard called it a sprained rotator cuff and said he's a "game-day decision."

Coach Mike D'Antoni didn't seem to be worried, saying the chances that Howard would play are "good."

Howard said he woke up extremely sore. He skipped practice Saturday and received treatment from the Lakers' training staff.

Next 3 games:

@Houston
@San Antonio
vs OKC

Kobe just got roasted defensively. He's been poor all year defensively...but it will be interesting to see if he gets the Derek Jeter treatment and lands on the first or second all-defense team anyways...

Defensive teams are a joke as much as Gold Gloves. They're based purely on reputation. I agree with you with the Kobe and Jeter comparison.

All awards and honours are a joke. The players should vote for all star teams, selctions at the end of the season and all other awards, not the media and not the fans, especially not those from China who outnumber all the others.

Down 6 going into the 4th. This 5 game stretch could determine whether we get into the playoffs or not. So far we're 0-1, about to be 0-2 with this loss and the next 3 games are @Hou @SAS vsOKC. . . :sigh:

AnthonyTyrael
01-07-2013, 12:34 AM
Problem wiht Kobe is...he was shooting over 56% the past 5+ games while he was only about 25% from three point line during that stretch. Now he's shooting bad and still forcing it from the distance while he recognizes that he's not nailing them but he keeps on... stupidity. Sooner or later he'll hit but until then they're even more behind. Now add Gasol's, Howard's and Nash's wrong decisions and missed shots and here you go...

Usually he gets the turn around and can tie the game but time is running out.

leprechaun5
01-07-2013, 12:35 AM

Dwight gets stripped everytime. **** pathetic.

After Dwight's offensive game improved, meaning he could catch the ball from 7+ feet out and score somewhat consistently, my only major pet peeve of his was how frequently he got stripped. His problem is that he brings the ball low so quickly...which is a terrible habit and something that he for whatever reason has never corrected. Just keep the ball high.

And it's nice to see that D'Antoni has fixed the defense!

ManRam
01-07-2013, 12:38 AM
Kobe was so eager to differ in the first half, and it was getting everyone involved (and led 60 first half points). But now he's back into chuck, chuck and chuck some more mode. It makes no sense.

Seriously, All he has to do is keep the ball high. He keeps bringing the ball down for whatever reason and just gets stripped. I'm guessing he does it to gain balance and go up strong but you can't do anything without the ball. It's becoming annoying quick, along with the turnovers and missed FTs. Lakers fans got what they wanted. . . now it doesn't seem all that good, I miss Bynum.

Howard is clearly not even close to 100%. Who knows if he gets back to it, but he's not his normal self. Some of it certainly is adjusting to a completely new situation...he's never played with a star, let alone on a team with three hall of famers on it.

He hasn't been great, but his raw numbers are still really good, even though it's clear he hasn't found his rhythm in the offense. He's better than Bynum...I wouldn't be wishing to have him back.

He needs better coaching. SVG got everything he could out of Dwight...I can't imagine Dwight's too receptive to D'Antoni. I think that's a problem too.

Doesn't work most games, you cna witness today. No chemistry, no flow. No feeling for the game, situations. Nash usually has it most games though. That's why he's passing that great and shooting usually that well.

This are Lakers in the pushed against the wall mode. You shoot, you try out things, you will force, you might choke.

I understand he's not 100% and that's what makes everything even more frustrating. Laker fans might see him back at 100% but it might not even be in a Laker uni. :(

Watching this Lakers team is both infuriating and baffling. Everyone is just giving Kobe the ball and letting him try to score off of isolations. You have four likely future Hall of Famers on the same ****ing team!!! Ball movement, morons!!!! Kobe is taking off-balanced, contested 20 footers with Dwight consistently sitting in one-on-one situations five feet from the basket, Nash's defender giving him way too much space on the perimeter and Gasol consistently getting open in that 12-18 foot range. Watching a good portion of this game and the Lakers are just so ****ing clueless. And the worst part about is that Kobe made a couple of big shots at the end to seemingly justify him taking that many shots in this game. But there is just no excuse for anybody taking 25 shots when they're playing that badly and there are that many good players on your roster. He took more shots than any two other players combined. Ridiculous...

Dwight Howard memes just for today:

Ties career high in rebounds... Loses
Blocks a shot and grabs board to save the game, throws it to Javale
Swats the **** out of a shot to save the game, into Gallo's hands to bury them with a 3

LMAO this day is awesome. Someone make some memes!!

Lakers didn't play him much, as they often do. He's a big man, D'Antoni their coach. Any questions?

I don't think we're gonna make the playoffs to be honest. This team is gonna get blown up. Lakers are gonna go all in for the 2014 free agency, doesn't mean **** though, I can see us giving out some stupid *** contracts due to desperation, I hope that's not the case.

How many points you think the Rockets gonna beat them by Tuesday?

say what you guys want about Kobe's shooting, the Lakers have to pick up the D if they are serious about winning. Giving up 112 points, wtf.....

The defense is why they are losing, the offense is there, they are scoring 103/game.

I'm the Lakers front office, I give this thing until a couple of weeks before the trade deadline and then start looking to completely blow this team up. They have such a small window that if they can't even make a playoff run this year, they might as well blow it up and start from scratch. But the real question becomes what they're willing to blow up. They can't trade Kobe and they certainly don't want to get rid of Howard...

The obsession with pinning blame entirely on one person is usually a silly one. Everyone deserves a good amount of blame. We can aliquot it however we want, but every player on that team can be doing something better. There's enough blame for everyone to get some...

BUT, one thing that continues to get overlooked is the defense. That's been the biggest culprit IMO.

I'm not saying anything for fear of jinxing it, but as well as the Rockets are playing right now and as good as they've been at home, I really like their chances. Houston has played particularly well against teams they can can run against and force to play their style of basketball. Denver proved tonight that they could beat the Lakers the same way. Just watching how easily Ty Lawson got layups in the fourth quarter, I was licking my chops to think what Harden and Lin could do to that defense.

Lakers go for Dirk and reunite him with Nash. Won't solve all problems but see what else you get. Add young blood, quickness and defense too with another trade. If you actually had a productive or at least defensive minded bench, which could kill some mans offense, you could have come away with a win while the starters couldn't besides Howards effort.

I'm not a Lakers fan (Hawks fan), sorry, and not trying to place blame on 1 person. I just think it's silly NO blame gets passed onto Kobe, when he is the center of everything. The fans in LA were just chanting for Phil, like he is going to suit up and win them games. That would mean the fans want another coaching change. So another coach is to blame is what I'm trying to figure out.

None of these guys fit with Kobe. Howard needs to be the no. 1 option to be successful. Nash needs a young, running team and Gasol doesn't fit with D'Antoni.

You need to get rid of all three of them if you want to get a contender in here. Or get rid of Kobe and you'll have an instant contender. You can't ride into the sunset of his career with him hacking up a million shots. He's not Michael Jordan.

The first step has got to be embracing Nash as the offensive playmaker on this team and the second should probably be dealing Gasol. I actually think Gasol would work well with Nash, but he's just in a funk right now and I think it would be best for everyone involved if he were gone. But even then, I don't know that they have time to fix this thing. They have time to certainly still make the playoffs, but they're a long freaking way from anything higher than the seventh or eighth seed.

True. But he may play til 40. And no one is going to come. This experience is such a bad rap on his reputation. First Bynum comes out and says Kobe hindered him. Then you see the entire team underperforming while he's having his best season in years.

As a fan, you better hope he retires after next year. Because the franchise is doomed otherwise.

A young star like Kevin Love will not come unless he's a or the focal point. He wants to become great, not just another in line next to Kobe Bryant.

But I was WAAAYYYY wrong about LAL. I thought Nash, Bryant, Gasol and Howard were perfect compliments. They had the great floor general PG who also is a knock down shooter, the explosive scorer/slasher, and a nice finesse/power inside combination. It scared the **** out of me.

I actually think Gasol would be a great fit with D'Antoni and Nash, but there's too much going on and too many mouths to feed on that offense for it to ever work. I do agree that Howard should get the ball more, though. The problem I see is that Dwight, Kobe and Nash all have had success in the past with the offense running through them. Now they're playing on the same team and Nash and Dwight are nowhere near as effective because they're getting nowhere near as many looks as they did in Phoenix and Orlando.

Because Kobe is playing extremely well, when people thought this year Kobe will stop producing at a elite level, but he has shown people wrong. Yes, people say Kobe is the problem at Dwight's productivity and that he may be a virus in the locker room, but who knows what goes on in the locker room, if you look at it, in the first quarter Dwight gets more touches when him and Kobe are on together, and Kobe only scores when Dwight is subbed off.
