View Full Version : First Time All-Stars this year?

Simple question: Who do you think is going to make the All-Star team for the first time in their careers this season?

I'm going with; Anderson-V, Josh Smith, Kyrie Irving, Rudy Gay and Stephen Curry. Possibly Serge Ibaka, if he gets recognized for his defence and improved range,

Well, the 3rd All Star returns have LeBron, Melo, Wade and Rondo as virtual locks in the East with KG and Bosh duking it out for the 5th spot. KD, Dwight, Blake and Kobe are locks in the West with Paul fighting off Lin.

I think/hope Paul holds off Lin, I'm not certain the loser of the KD/Bosh fight makes it, but it could be a safe assumption. So we have the 11 guys there.

The rest are up to the coaches, 7 reserves each.

I think Westbrook, Parker, Harden, Tim Duncan, David Lee, Zach Randolph as well as Pierce (iffy) get repeat bids. That leaves 1 person in the West and 4 in the East.

Brook Lopez, Josh Smith, Kyrie Irving, Tyson Chandler and Anderson Varejao should make it. No disrespect to guys like Holiday and to a lesser extent DeRozan. I could, sadly, see a guy like Deron making it based on reputation. Pierce is so iffy, though, that there might very well be more than those 5 new comers. I don't know how the bench layout works...you probably need at least 2 guards...so yeah, maybe scratch a big for a guard. Noah is as deserving as those bigs too. There will be snubs.

Out West I think Ibaka, Marc Gasol or Steph Curry should fight for that last spot. Two of those guys would be new-comers.

It's too hard to predict. But my guess is we get a lot in the East and probably only one out West.

EDIT: For some reason I thought Harden made the team last year (he should have). So he's obviously a first timer.

Lopez SHOULD make it but won't. Dude has 5th best PER in NBA and he has 20,000 less votes than Bynum is far behind Shane Battier and Amare Stoudemire.

Vareajo (floppy as i have always called him) Greg Monroe, Brook Lopez, and Derozen should make it in my opinion, but wont.

I don't get how anyone can come up with a list of new comers and have DeRozan's name on it and NOT Irving's. There is no argument as to who is better between the two.

JasonJohnHorn

Tyson Chandler

It's crazy that he's never been on a team. He was the DPOY last season, AND made the All-NBA team, AND the Olympic team, but not the All-Star team? He's probably the first guy to do all those things in the same season and NOT make an All-Star roster.

Good call. I agree with pretty much everything you said. I don't think Garnett is putting in an All-Star performance this season and I am surprised to see him with enough votes to be a starter. I love Pierce, but I don't think he's putting in an All-Star performance either. If either of them make the roster it will be based on what they've done in the past, and not what they are doing this season. And for Boston to have 3 All-Stars with thier current record?

It will be harder for the guys out west. I expect the Warriors will have at least one rep with how good they've been playing, and part of me thinks that will be Curry, not because Lee isn't playing well (he is), but because he has played as well in the past and has been looked over. Both are huge for the Warriors right now though, and both are deserving.

Sadly, as is the case every year, there will be several very deserving players left off the roster because there simply isn't enough spots. I'd really like to see the roster extended to 15 for the All-Star game... three guys at each position. Sounds good to me, and the fans get to see more players they like.

The only things that will keep KI and AV out is that (a.) they've missed significant time (again... Sigh) to injury. And (b.) the Cavs stink and have only won 7 games.

Holiday should get the nod for reserve guard.

Only players in the league averaging over 18 ppg and 8 apg are him and Westbrook. Without Jrue, Sixers wouldn't be mediocre, they'd be dead last in the East.

18.8 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 9.0 apg, 1.3 spg.

Just watch Deron Williams get in before him, lol

Holiday deserves it way more than Deron this year.

Would like to see Lopez in, he's been great when healthy this year.

Yep, this may prevent him from making the allstar game.

But he isn't getting any help, the guy can only do so much. E.T has stepped it up this year, but the Sixers have the worst bigs in the NBA.

Take the last 4 games for example....

Jrue puts up 21, 2, 10 against the Warriors and we lose handily.

29, 9, 9 against portland, we still lose.

26, 2, 10 against the Lakers, and we barely squeeze out a victory.

16, 10, 10 against the suns and we lose again.

All of this while holding his opposing PG's (Curry, Nash, Lillard, and Dragic) numbers to 14.5 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 5.8 apg

The guy is balling out of his mind on both ends, but our horrible team defense and atrocious big rotation make it impossible for us to win.

Bynum, why must you do this to me???
