He's going to be worn out come playoff time. Brown and D'Antoni don't seem to know how to manage minutes :bang:

It's an absurd amount of minutes. I have to say I have a strong feeling he's taking EPO so that's likely helping his recovery time+stamina, but that sheer amount of minutes will inevitably takes its tole on a body with that many minutes. He's averaging 27 FGA's a game in that span also. The Lakers are a mess.

If Kobe can handle it I guess its fine.
He may end up getting burned out before the playoff though and start sucking.

The 41 skewed this but that was an effect game. There's no way he shouldn't have gotten free throws when he took 19'shots at the rim. The refs gave him nothing. 14 shots were between 10-16 feet.

His efficiency would look good had he gotten free throws that game. Even when he had back spasms he was still efficient.

He also played Nash 40MPG in his first 2 games back, which I was really surprised at.

He tends to have short rotations and play guys tons of minutes, its one thing to do that with Lin who was 23, but with 2 guys like Kobe & Nash?

This should definitely be in the Lakers forum. Calling someone else obnoxious because they feel that a specific topic on a specific player should be in their team's forum is in itself obnoxious.

Start a thread about Omer Asik in the main forum. See how long it is until its closed or moved to the Rockets forum.

33 minutes isn't that much especially when the lakers are always down.

I dont see the problem with him playing 40 plus mins. they won most of the games in that stretch anyway

So Kobe's averaging 26 and a half shots per game over the last ten...Of course he's going to score 30+. More impressed that he's doing it at this age. His conditioning is amazing. The minutes will be a problem eventually. Unless LAL goes on a huge winning streak, they'll probably be a 5-7 seed in the playoffs, having to match up with three of the Grizz, Spurs, Clips, and Thunder...to THEN have a chance at the Heat. I don't see it in the cards this season. Kobe will be worn down by then if he keeps averaging over 40 minutes just to get them into the playoffs...And then having to log big minutes in the playoffs.

this. I forgot which broadcaster said it, but they were warning D'Antoni about using Nash as heavily as he had been. "I know you're excited, but just remember, Nash is a lot older than the last time you saw him..."

Honestly, he's making a mess in his pants cuz of who he's got on the roster and he's still gonna **** it up. The lakers are old, but they still have a chance to win, D'Antoni is just too much of a fraud to make it happen. Let's give 40+mpg to a guy coming off a broken leg, and a ~15 year vet......I like where this is headed.

yes, it's a major problem.

Kobe is in his 17th season and he's 34 years old. He's logged the most minutes in the NBA this season. it is not a recipt for success come the post season. Kobe needs to be held under 38 mpg until the real season starts.

The one thing that has always bothered me about D'Antoni is that he's going to do things his way at any cost. He's not going to adjust his mentality or schemes to adapt to his players and instead make the players he has fit into his scheme. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

D'Antoni always runs his starters into the ground. Kobe has so much mileage already and D'Antoni is just relying on him too much. But the Lakers don't have much of a bench right now either?

He needs to run his starters like Pop runs the Spurs? When the playoffs start, Duncan and Ginobli will be fresh and ready to make another championship run...

JasonJohnHorn

I think the questions that arise here are: A) Does Kobe want to do this? and B) Will this create potential health issues down the line.

Buss knew when he brought 'Antoni in that he would give heavy minutes to his starters. That is what 'Antoni does. So if Buss is unhappy with this, then it is his own fault.

If Kobe wants to do this, then I don't see a problem, as Kobe has clearly demonstrated that he is capable of handling these minutes. He's been playing great basketball with the exception of a couple sub-par shooting nights, but bottom line is he's keeping up. If Kobe is down for these kind of minutes, I don't see a problem with it unless it leads to potential health issues. If there is a cronic health issue that Kobe needs some time off, or limited minutes, then yes, it would be a problem, but if he is healthy, I don't see this as an issue pragmatically. What it does do is limit in-game experience gor the guys coming off the bench, and you do need those guys to be ready when the post season rolls around.

Other than considering those issues, I say kudos to Kobe for his subperb conditioning.
