View Full Version : Finally time for the Nets to fire Avery Johnson?

His time has come. Despite Jerry Sloan feuding with Deron before, I think it would be appropriate to hire Sloan, especially because the owner is not afraid to flash his wallet when it comes to spending. Thoughts?

I'd actually really like to see this rosted coached by Phil Jackson. JJ and Lopez running the triangle with D-Will? Could be interesting. Not sure if the Nets have the three-point shooters though, but Phil would improve their defence.

Sloan would be great if he could get D-Will to return to his Utah days.

I think Johnson is a good coach though.

Yes I think its about time. Their playing poorly and the coach is always the first to go.

Change the coach early so they have time to right the ship if they can

LOL at you guys for thinking Phil Jackson would come out of retirement to coach a losing team and on top of that Jerry Sloan is 70 years old and only coached one franchise for his entire life. I really don't see either happening.

Stan Van is the most likely good candidate I see Brooklyn signing at this point. Be reasonable.

If Sloan could be talked out of retirement, there's no way in hell he'd go back to coaching the guy who made him leave the game in the first place.

Yes and No. Avery has made some really really BAD decisions but these players have simply under preformed.

Our team is still coming together, and I get that, but its never a good thing to start out so well then immediately fall apart right after.

There's still plenty of time to figure this all out, but again, if we want to get anywhere in the playoffs, things need to be adjusted.

Said all along they weren't going to be a very good team.... Everyone was predicting 50 plus wins like it was nothing. I had sixers being better than both Knicks/Nets when healthy....I know we will be better than the Nets Lol....It would be interesting to see how we would match up with the knicks though with a healthy Bynum.

That all being said people had them being better than both Knicks/Sixers and being a top 3 team behind Boston/Heat....WHAT?

This team as constructed needs to emphasize offense because they're not going to win a lot of games with their defense. Teletovic needs to play. Brooks needs more minutes. Shengelia, too. Phil Weber. With Ewing as an assistant.

I've believed Brooklyn has needed to fire Johnson after last season and hire Stan Van Gundy. After being retired for about 3 years, I doubt Sloan would want to return. Stan Van Gundy is probably the best coach available. Phil Jackson would only return to the Lakers, so he is out of the question.

They would be better with a different coach, but yea I only saw this team in the 46-50 win range, second round playoff team as their absolute peak.

:laugh2:

32-40 wins TOPS.... 5 seed is the BEST result for them... 8 seed or miss playoffs is their floor...

sloan would be the best fit, but you'd have to convince him, and you'd have to be sure DWill's ok with it. Basically, hiring Sloan would be asking DWill to admit for whatever reason the two of them had a rift earlier, that he was wrong....Not sure if his ego can do that.

PJ is not coming. He needs more stars.

Stan Van Gundy, he might.....that's probably the best bet.

Deron Williams the Coach Killer.

Firing Avery isn't gonna make D Will shoot better than 40% from the field

Avery Johnson is just getting crushed under unrealistic expectations. Doesn't help that the team across the bridge is 21-8.

Fact is the Nets are where we'd thought they'd be. Nothing more, nothing less.
