This is his best year as a Laker since joining them in 2009. He is averaging a career high 2.3 Three Pointers per game. He averaged 7.7 Points last year and 8.5 the year before. He is now averaging 13.9 points and that number is growing. He also has 1.7 Steals per game, 5.9 Rebounds per game, and 35.3 Minutes per game, all his highest in 5 years. Is he a serious contender for Most Improved?

Definitely. MWP is like a bull in a china shop this year.

Not sure how the viewers will vote for him as a guy in his 14th season.

I think so. His elbow to ko ratio is growing as well.

I agree, MIP award are mostly for players having a break out season and being a all star not other way around.

most improved doesnt go to 14 years vets. i can guarantee he doesnt win it. Players to be considered are...

Jrue Holiday, Evan Turner, Omer Asik, Larry Sanders, all come to my mind. I dont like 2nd year players winning it bcuz they are suppose to improve but Kemba and Parsons will be up there as well

It's going to be difficult to say a guy is most improved who's probably had better seasons in the past than the one he's having now. Kemba Walker would be my pick.

No.

Or would you give mip to a player that is a fourth option this season in any team and getting say 10ppg if he is traded in the summer and next year he starts doing 18 a game becaus ein his new team he is featured more?

I'm a Lakers fan and whilst I do love MWP, he clearly won't get the MIP award. First off, as stated by some already, he's had numerous better seasons in his prime.

Secondly, Asik says hi.

Thirdly...well, I don't know any other reason, but there's probably someone else who's playing way better than he did last season.

Hes over qualified. MWP was very good prior to joining the Lakers. MIP is sort of a reward to give to a rising player, rather than a former all star.

This but 6th man isnt a long shot.

Omer Asik already won the award and nobody else is close.

Sixth Man Award is between Crawford and JR Smith

Idk if he can win MIP but I definitely feel he was being completely underused the last couple years Nd didn't really have a role offensively.

i doubt he wins.

but- he has already compiled more win-shares in 28 games this season, that he did in 64 games last season. whatever he's doing, it working.

Has anyone won MIP after already being a 25ppg scorer in their careers?

I think its Asik right here and now and possibly Harden based on the hype factor that plays into these awards.

Mostly James Harden will probably get MIP.

MWP however if he keeps it up, could get Sixth Man of the Year. Crawford is the other most worthy target but for MWP, it's not a long shot.

He's definitely getting away with using it more than ever.

But the weird part is that everyone seems to have accepted his name change. Even me. I tried calling him Ron Artest a few threads ago and it just didn't feel right. I went through the same thing with Kareem (né, Lou Alcindor). I hope he keeps the name, Metta World Peace, and doesn't pull a Chad Johnson on us.

Dunno if he's deserving of MIP, but he's definitely a different player this season, looking like the Ron Artest of old.

Well with Metta (I know it's stuck to me too lol), I remember him basically saying just call him whatever you want. If he did decide to change his name again, it won't be back to Ron Artest. Probably something like "Queen's Bridge" .

If he helps us to another title this year, I'll start up a collection to help buy him platinum dog tags with Queensbridge inscribed.

Absolutely no way. Artest is having an outstanding year, but he was once an all star back in 2004 and one of the better players in the league in he early-mid 2000's. Can't give an MIP to someone that's already been really good. He was better back then than he is now.

How can you call him "Most Improved" when he's been declining for the last 5 years? That's like calling someone in "great shape" because they are only "slightly obese" rather than "obese."
