View Full Version : Pierce: First player since Jordan to score 35 PTS in back to back games after age 35

Putting up 35 points at 35 years of age is also a significant accomplishment, before Pierce the last guy to do it was actually Ray Allen in 2010 (November 11th vs. Miami). But the combination of the two, back to back 35 point nights as a 35 year old, is something the league hasn't seen since a guy by the name of Michael Jeffrey Jordan pulled it off more than a decade ago. Amazingly Jordan did it twice with the Wizards in the 2001-02 season after his second retirement (scoring 51 and 45 on Dec. 29th and 31st, then 40 and 41 less than a month later on Jan. 24th and 26th).

..

Pierce's 40 point game was also historic in it's own right because of his age, and the efficiency with which he did it. He's the oldest player to score 40 on just 16 or fewer field goal attempts in the last 27 years

Furthermore, Pierce is averaging 21 PPG, 5.7 RPG, 3.7 APG with a .547 TS% and a .506 eFG%.

This is his 15th year in the NBA. Anyone else surprised that he's still playing at such a high level? He definitely benefits from playing a style that doesn't rely on athleticism or explosiveness.

How long can he keep playing at this level? How much longer do you think he can be in the league?

He's a crafty player, but most importantly he's a good shooter. When you have these two aspects in your arsenal, you can play in this league for a long time.

I say he plays until he's around 39-40. He's got a few good, productive years left in him.

He's still a very good player. That 40 point game he had was off the chains. 13-16 from the floor? Crazy

I've long thought Pierce is the closest thing to Jordan in regard to will to win. Obviously not on the same level as Jordan in terms of total talent, but certainly no slouch there either, and better than most.

In his first few year I thought he was a punk, but my respect has only grown over the years.

Didn't he say he'll only play as long as KG is still playing though?

Leave it Lakers fans to make every thread about Kobe and then spin it as if they're joking.

Kobe probably will but he won't be shooting anywhere near 13 of 16 from the field like Pierce did.

As a Knicks fan I should hate Paul Pierce but I respect his game so much. Would love his career to have been with the Knicks.

Why is 35 pts used as the criteria or 35 years of age if the player who did it was 39 years old and scored 40+ in those games?

He's still got enough to not only break Hondo's record, but to possibly get into the top 10 NBA scoring... He's been a scorer his whole career and that will continue till he hangs em' up...

Why is 35 pts used as the criteria or 35 years of age if the player who did it was 39 years old and scored 40+ in those games?:confused:For the same reason that you have an unhealthy obsession with T-Mac and HCA -- The world will never know.

Also your example makes no sense. If they were 39 and scored 40+ in back to back games, they would still fit the 35/35 criteria....But guess what? No one has fit it since Jordan.

Kthxbye

I saw the 2nd game live. He can still shoot, but, he's slowly declining overall. I think we have Indian Summer here.

Most underrated player in the NBA imo. So unappreciated and I can't for the life of me figure out why.

A little more than two more years without injury and he might be in but not for too long, depending on the other active players.

Still a beast. He was never really an athletic freak, so this comes as no surprise IMO. Always liked Pierce, always will. Clutch as **** too!

Because if it wasn't, there would be no story to talk about....That's honestly why.

If you scored 40+ in consecutive games than you scored at least 35 points and that would be included.

Pierce is slow as ****. I love watching him play.

He's all about head fakes and crafty footwork.

He legitimately thinks he's better than everyone he faces, too. He has a winning mentality.

He's like that old dude with the gray hair that you play against at the gym. All the scrubs are saying "I've got the old guy", and he proceeds to whooping their ***** with bank shots and put-back rebounds.

Except Pierce does this in the NBA. :laugh2:
