Dunk on Dwight? Lulz just had to get that in the title didn't you?

JasonJohnHorn
12-19-2012, 03:11 AM
Well... despite the fact he did not contest it, Dwight did get 'dunked' on... i mean, doesn't the fact that he didn't contest it make it worse?

That said, it's not really fair to call this getting dunked on. Dwight was defending the guy with the ball who passed it to Henderson... Dwight then rotated to pick up that player (whose defender left him wide open) and then he got dunked on.

I feel bad for help defenders.... usually some guy on the wing gets his ankles broken or the offensive player blasts by him and then a help defender has to leave his man to pick up the guy with a clear lane to the basket, which in most cases means they get dunked on, when it should be the picture of the defender who let him through that is getting posterized.

NBA_Starter

No, Dwight didn't try to contest it but he was under there, that is why you see people trying to get out of a poster but Dwight didn't have time by the time he turned around Hendo had taken flight.

Dwight does the same move too, is it not a dunk when he does it either? For the record I have not commented on Blake Griffin's dunks either way. Also I am def not trolling because Dwight was under there is why I put it, that is not debatable.

Edit: My thread title is the title of the link also. I kind of did that by habit more than trying to knock on Dwight.

Ok all of yall are saying its not a dunk. The guy got his head over the rim. Who gives a damn if he dunked it fully. That **** was raw! And if Dwight can win a dunk contest with not even touching the rim then Gerald Henderson can get this as a dunk of the year nominee.

If Dwight's dunks in the dunk contest are enough to win it, then this is definitely the same ****!

Secondly, if Dwight fouled him, it was on Dwight.

Pause it at .20 seconds, he is under him and even sticks his arm out and pushes him in the chest as he is dunking the ball, that is the definition of getting dunked on.

Well, many people use "throwing it down" and "dunking" synonymously. If we need to differentiate between Hendo's dunk to a normal dunk, then we have to differentiate "throw down" and "dunk." Or we can just use dunk as an umbrella term and include those literal throw downs with normal dunks. IMO, it's easier to just make dunk an umbrella term.

To those who are saying its not a dunk I have a question do you know WHAT a dunk is? To dunk a basketball you don't need to touch the rim you know. However only a select few of us can even do that. It's 100 x harder than actually holding on to the rim when you do.

You really don't know what a dunk is do you?

Here what instead of telling you I'll post what the facts are.

http://www.thefreedictionary.com/dunk

Basketball To slam (a ball) through the basket from above.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slam_dunk

A slam dunk is a type of basketball shot that is performed when a player jumps in the air and manually powers the ball downward through the basket with one or both hands over the rim.

http://wonderopolis.org/wonder/what-is-a-slam-dunk/

A slam dunk is a basketball shot in which a player jumps through the air to force the ball downward through the basket with one or both hands over the rim.

Idiot say what? You don't need to grab onto a rim to dunk it what in that simple fact don't you guys grasp?

My uncle told me that Earl Manigault was doing this with ease back in the day and truth be told its WAY harder than holding onto the rim. Its a DUNK in the dictionary description and the hardcourt description of the word. How people can't understand this is beyond me.

Nice play but not a dunk. Just like some of Griffin's.

Getting dunked on is when a defender is actually contesting the shot. Not simply dunking over someone who happens to be there.

This is why Suns fans didn't make a big deal out of Morris dunking over Griffin last season.

I agree... In order to accomplish that you'd have to be much higher off the ground than if you were just grabbing onto the rim... You can see how elevated he was above the rim in order to throw it through the hoop

No, Dwight didn't try to contest it but he was under there, that is why you see people trying to get out of a poster but Dwight didn't have time by the time he turned around Hendo had taken flight.

The term "getting dunked on" is overused. Usually, it's not the guy who was actually supposed to be guarding the dunker who either steps up late on help or happens to be under the rim. I don't blame you at all for using it, but I find it funny that suddenly people are nitpicking when Dwight is involved.

Also, for others who say it's not a dunk, here's the Wikipedia/Webster's definition:
A slam dunk is a type of basketball shot that is performed when a player jumps in the air and manually powers the ball downward through the basket with one or both hands over the rim Nothing in there says that you have to grab the rim.
