View Full Version : Brian Scalabrine is challenging people to 1 on 1

My dad sent me a very important text message today. He paid the international rates and everything, so you know it’s something I really needed to know. The topic? Brian Scalabrine challenging all of Boston to a one-on-one game, duh. That’s why he’s my dad.

Here are the details, as explained by Scal on ESPN’s “Waddle and Silvy Show” in Chicago (37:30 mark):

In Boston right now, we have this challenge going out. I do a radio show out there, and there are people on the street that really believe they can beat me. So we’re doing tryouts for the top 10 people in Boston to play me one-on-one.

And we’re playing to 11. And we’re gonna film it, everything. The reality of people and what they think NBA players are like. I’m the last guy on the bench and I will kick your butt if you’re out on the streets. It’s just the way it is.

Two things about this:

1. Brian Scalabrine is right. He will destroy any normal basketball player who thinks they can step to him. He is a 6-foot-8 34-year-old who shot 34 percent from three during an 11-year career and has been out of the league for less than a year. He was good enough during this calendar year to make enough cool plays in an NBA game that necessitated an entire YouTube highlight reel. In the realm of NBA players, he might suck. But in the realm of humans playing basketball, he is still really good.

2. I really want to see an entire video clip of Brian Scalabrine beating random people at one-on-one. That’s exactly what he needs to secure his place in the internet Hall of Fame.

Other than that, do what you wish with this information. Move to Boston to try to take him down, text your father and tell him you love him or just fire up some old Scalabrine highlights — I don’t care. I just wanted you to know Brian Scalabrine is challenging people in Boston to one-on-one games. My work here is done.

Good.

Idiots on the streets who are played their highest level at rec basketball think they are better than an NBA player.

Hes pretty tall... he started in the nba... I don't care if you have a few good moves, but no one on the streets will be able to shoot over him efficiently, get any rebounds or stop him.

keep in mind these won't be shrimpy accountants and businessmen challenging him... it'll probably be guys who played in college and are just as tall as him and have more than just a few moves. there exists people who are 6'8" and taller and don't play in the NBA...

that said, no, he's still an NBA player and I'd be really surprised if anyone beat him

It's funny it's boston. He didn't choose New York or la where ball is life. And I'm from mass but we don't put out a good amount of quality players.

To the best of my knowledge Boston is not exactly an unattainable distance from NYC. If they have a car and a morning off they can probably make it through a tryout and a game against Scal if they think they can hang. This will bring out all the biggest 1v1 ballers out there.

Scal is ****ing awesome. This is hilarious. He's definitely not a 1v1 player and he'll be playing some court legend 1v1 players. And he'll win. There may be a player out there who beats him though.

Thats funny you mentioned that. I actually listen to Waddle and Silvy every morning and when Scal was on, he also challenged Chicago too.

He would smash people. I remember Smush Parker was at LA Fitness playing a couple years ago and he looked liked a 99 rated created player

Interesting... I hope he's not biting off more than he can chew. There are some serious street ballers that can beat NBA players one-on-one (if they amtch up well) but just don't have the skill set to play in the NBA. Scal may find himself surprised.

The dude was in the NBA and that means that he is so much better than around 10000000 other basketball players around the world.

what people dont seem to understand is that ALL NBA players are good. EVERY player in the NBA were the best of the best from their college class or country. and EVERY College player were the best of the best from their high school class. so chances are...unless you're an extremely highly rated recruit from high school or a highly ranked college player, you're not going to stand a chance against ANY NBA player no matter how far down the bench they sit.

I heard about a few people who Scal actually played against in the streets(in which he won of course) and two of the people committed suicide and the other guy lost his job and his family.

So not only does he beat you he takes your soul.

I'm glad he's doing this. I hate when people say they cab beat an nba play just because they're the last guy off the bench or "scrub".

scal is a running joke but he's gonna need those guys. it won't even be close

The one thing that would make me wonder about this is there have gotta be players out there even on the streets that are just so much quicker and faster than Scalabrine. I question that he would be able to stay in front of a really fast guy. Otherwise, it wouldn't even be a game.

They should have Michael Rapaport show up in a Larry Bird Jersey to play these games.
