Kind of a different way of thinking about the game, after the usual sixth man talk. A quarter of the way into the 2012-13 NBA campaign, who do you think have been the seventh men of the NBA so far?

http://360special.blogspot.ca/2012/12/7th-men-of-nba.html

1. Eric Bledsoe, LAC - 10.1ppg, 3.0apg, 50%FG, 0 games started, behind sixth man Jamal Crawford
2. Jeff Green, BOS - 9.8ppg, 3.0rpg, 45%FG, 0 games started, behind sixth man Courtney Lee
3. Derrick Favors, UTA - 9.3ppg, 7.5rpg, 2 games started, behind sixth man Randy Foye
4. Larry Sanders, MIL - 7.6ppg, 7.7rpg, 3 games started, behind sixth man Mike Dunleavy
5. Steve Novak, NYK - 8.6ppg, 47 3s, 0 games started, behind sixth man JR Smith
6. Amir Johnson, TOR - 7.3ppg, 5.4rpg, 50%FG, 0 games started behind sixth man Jose Calderon
7. Nick Collison, OKC - 6.1ppg, 3.9rpg, 64%FG, 0 games started behind sixth man Kevin Martin
8. Stephen Jackson, SAS - 7.7ppg, 4.3rpg, 2 games started, behind sixth man Manu Ginobili
9. CJ Watson, BRK - 6.7ppg, 1.8apg, 1.3rpg, 0 games started, behind sixth man Andray Blatche
10. Taj Gibson, CHI - 5.9ppg, 4.5rpg, 0 games started, behind sixth man Nate Robinson

Also... Udonis Haslem, Andre Miller, JJ Barea?

Nick Collison winning an award would be the greatest thing to ever happen to sports. :laugh2:

He's so awesome.

It isn't like people are vehemently arguing for their guy. Most people only really watch their own teams' games, so they only really know their own teams' 7th men. It's pretty simple, and not really homerism.

Larry Sanders and Eric Bledsoe. Can't decide. Interested in their minutes played though as well.

What about Ben Gordon for the Bobcats? He's putting up 14 PPG as the "seventh man."

facepalm worthy comment.

The 2nd best player off a team's bench is not the same as runner up for the SMOY award.

just so everyone knows, sanders is also putting up almost 4 blocks per game off the bench also and has had a trip-dub off the bench with points blocks n boards!

I don't get it. 7th man? Most coaches go with an 8-man rotation with other guys getting minutes at ends of quarters or when stars are injured or in foul trouble (like Bonner gets thrown in at the end of a quarter to spread the floor).

So guys who are first or second (or even third) off the bench, generaly get about the same amount of minutes, and so would be in line for 6th man... I don't get how you would differentiate from 6th and 7th man.

It's kinda like having a 2MVP for guy who are the second best player on your team. Which player who is second best on his team is better than all the other players who are second best on their teams? I mean really?

yeah, you're right. it's just another arbitrary award made up by a random nobody with a blog.
why not just rank players 1-12 on the team and hand awards to all of them.

here's one. best worst guy on your team in the league, and call it bench warmer of the year.

Sanders. 7.7 PTS. 7.6 RPG 3.1 BPG. 516. FG% putting up better numbers than most 6th men, some starters even. Gotta go with him.

Andre Drummond comes off the bench behind Rodney Stuckey. 6 pts (58% FG), 6 boards, 1.3 blocks, 0.8 steals a game. He also only averages 0.7 turnovers a game with an average of 17.8 minutes played a game. Very good for a rookie big man.
