View Full Version : Lakers 1-8 when Kobe Scores 30+ Says it All

Lakers now 1-8 when Kobe scores 30 or more and 8-3 when he scores 29 or less. This stat says it all. You can only ask a scorer to distribute the ball so much. That is just not who he is. If he has the ball in his hands he is mainly going to shoot which will lead to offensive stagnation.

Kobe need to shoot less but let's face it he won't. The reality is until Nash is back to distribute the ball lakers will struggle.

It's sad that worthy and stu and the gang are talking about this was an encouraging loss. My how far lakers have fallen. I miss the days when lakers were expected to win every time and losses left a bitter taste. Oh we'll such is the new laker reality.

Doesn't really say a whole lot. When the Lakers are down a good bit he throws up more shots. He's not chucking so much when it's a closer game, but when the game gets out of hand like tonight, he starts throwing it up. Especially when we are down by double digits the whole game and Kobe plays until the clock hits zero without getting any rest for the next game whatsoever.

It doesn't tell the full story at all. I actually thought Kobe's defense was okay tonight. Dwight was fine. Everyone else outside of Meeks got badly outplayed.

It's December! 1st qtr of the season down. Let's get hot and with the next 3 qtrs & win 16 games in the playoffs.

I do agree in a way, I wish Kobe would pick and roll with Dwight more and feed him some lobs(the energy that play will create for this team) it would do wonders for the chemistry of the team.

The people saying he can shoot whenever he wants because he has the rings... Please don't complain when the Lakers aren't winning games. If you only care about Kobe's game and not the Lakers - well there is a certain name NBA posters give to those..

With that said, without Colby the Lakers possibly lose by......... a lot. And this goes for most games this season. He is putting up a great season and if he wants to shoot - efficiently - he should. Why? Well because efficiency obviously helps the team.. BUT if he's having a terrible night shooting the ball, and still continues then there is a problem. THANKFULLY the Lakers haven't had to go through that much this season. The concerns don't start with Colby and they don't end with him.

It's really not the fact of Kobe scoring 30, but it's how he gets those points.

Is it a 30 pt night on 25+ shot attempts (making 35-40%)?? If so, it's most likely a loss.

Is it a 30 pt night on 10+ free throw attempts and going 45-50% from the field? If so, it's most likely a win.

It's in what manner he gets the points, not the fact of him getting those points.

Kobe makes selfish and poor decisions when he is the primary ball handler. He would rather take a circus shot behind the 3 point line than to run the offense and find the best possible shot. The guy is a scorer, not a PG, and it shows with his style of play. The 1-9 stat really does explain a lot of our woes if you consider the fact that players that aren't involved as much offensively will not be as engaged defensively either.

The stat is ********, look at the FG % of the other players of each game and you would see that most of the players aren't making anything so they rely on Kobe. Also pay attention to foul trouble before you start asking why D12 isn't shooting enough.

Exactly. Some of these Kobe bashers are just plain illogical. The guy has 5 rings playing like this. It is completely foolish to question the most winningest players since Michael Jordan. The real person to blame is Jim Buss, the guy who is responsible for zero banners hanging in the staples center.

Here is some more interesting data for you Kobe haters:

Statistics:

-- Kobe has scored 40+ points in 111 regular season games & 11 playoff games for a combined 122 games.

-- Lakers have a combined 87-35 winning record for 71% win rate both regular season and playoffs.

-- When Kobe scores 40+ points going 1889/3671 he is currently making them at a combined .515 FG% rate.

Regular Season:

-- When Kobe scores 40+ Lakers in those games have a 77-34 winning regular season record good for a 69% win rate.

-- An 82-game season would equate that as a 57-25 regular season record.

-- Kobe has made 1717/3356 shots good for a .512 FG% for the season.

Playoffs:

-- When Kobe scores 40+ Lakers in those games have an 10-1 winning playoff record good for 91% win rate in the playoffs.

-- Kobe has made 172/315 shots good for a .546 FG% in the Playoffs.

Well, maybe. But he just likes to shoot a lot. That is the fun part of basketball after all. His confidence stems from his tremendous ego. Its both good and bad. Usually much more good then bad. He needs to continue to be smarter as he gets older though. He's doing well this season.
