Astros selected RHP Josh Fields from the Red Sox with the first pick in Thursday's Rule 5 Draft.

Fields posted a 2.01 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 78/18 K/BB ratio in 58 1/3 innings this past season between Double-A Portland and Triple-A Pawtucket. The 27-year-old right-hander could land a middle relief job in Houston.

Twins selected RHP Ryan Pressly from the Red Sox with the fourth pick in Thursday's Rule 5 Draft.

Pressly had an uninspiring 5.38 ERA in 103 2/3 innings this past season between High-A Salem and Double-A Portland. He seems doubtful to stick with Minnesota.

You'd imagine Fields will stick with Houston, correct?

That team would even keep MacDime around to hit clean up.

I'm not going to look, but I believe the Astros bullpen was horrendous, so he should stick. He got destroyed in the Winter League he was in, even got released by the team he was on, so I guess it's possible the Astros cut him. I wouldn't want him if the Astros cut him though.

Other teams surprised Red Sox left Josh Fields unprotected from Rule 5 draft -- especially while keeping Scott Atchison on roster initially.

There was a strong consensus among teams that Fields was best player available in the Rule 5 draft, and that Houston picked the right guy.
