Angel Pagan and the Giants have reached an agreement on a contract, reports Jon Heyman of CBS Sports (via Twitter). The agreement is for four years and $40MM, according to Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports (Twitter link). Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports first reported (via Twitter) that the two sides were nearing a deal.

I've always loved Pagan for his oxymoron name.

4/40. Even though I think he's closer to a 3-4 win CF than the 5 he was last year, still a great deal for them. Sadly.

As I posted in the Winter Meetings thread, If he's half the player he was last year in terms of WAR throughout the contract, he's easily worth this.

10 M a year for him? Yikes

10M a year isn't bad, but 4 years is a bit much.

I think he probably took less money per year to stay in SF and get a longer contract.

It's all up to whether he is motivated or not.

When he was motivated in 2010 and 2012, the results are there.

Although the deal is a little long, that's what you have to do to re-sign a guy like that.

Sour MelK almost got 10 mil a year. I guess 10 mil a year for Pagan doesn't surprise me.

Yeah it's not...

Rowand benefited from Citizen's Bank park.

Pagan is not that type of hitter and can hit in more cavernous parks like Citi Field in 2010 and AT&T park last year.

I guess I saw this late, you can disregard my message in the other thread (Winter Meetings thread)

I feel like that's just too much for a guy that very recently was nothing more than a 4th outfielder.

I like Pagan, and I understand that the Giants needed him. But this is basically one year too much for me, and about 13 million too much for me.

3/27 would have been a good price for him.

THINKBLUE15
12-03-2012, 06:26 PM
Yeah, payroll means absolutely nothing when it comes to wisely constructing a roster.

He cost what he costs. Ballpark, he wasn't gonna get far more or less than he got. The market determines FA spending. It is what it is. So much is made over every penny. But there is no point debating it. A club and a player reached an agreement. It's over.

Also, why is there an asterisk next to your 7 in your sig? I mean, it's appropriate in plenty of ways but ironic coming form a Giant fan. Btw, I'm glad you win the WS and are still focused on the Dodgers. Glad you can count too.

When a guy like BJ Upton gets $15M, what do you expect?

That's too much for him. I hate to see what Swish ends up getting.

Probably more than Upton got.

Aaron Rowand 2.0

Horrible comparison, they're not even remotely close to similar players. Plus the Giants had Pagan last season and are expecting much different things from him than they were from Rowand.

Depends how the 5 bonus is spread out.

1.25 every Jan? all at once?

But it shouldn't hurt them.

Gimme Ludwick.

Ludwick? From what I last heard he's expensive and he's inconsistent. Hell no to him.

Pagan is our lead off hitter. Batted .290/.338/.491 in that role last season.

MY question is what's next? Do we still go get a left fielder? I hope so. I'm really glad we got Pagan back, he looked damn good last year minus the hiccup in the middle of the season. All the talk about Pagan leaving was really bumming me out because without Pagan we wouldn't have a center or left fielder.

He's going to be 35 in July, wants a pricy contract, and has been inconsistent his whole career. Getting Ludwick would not be "wise".

You want to give Sizemore 12M/year?????? The same guy who cant stay healthy and has played 104 games in the last three seasons? I wouldn't mind giving him a minor league deal, but 12M/year is just ridiculous.

And Blanco is coming back. They tendered him a contract.

I would've liked to see if he can be more consistant first. He's never had two full, good seasons back to back before. It should be interesting to see how this turns out. I hope he does well.

Not a bad deal at all. Probably a year too long, but not my team. This one actually has it's window open now.

Not sure what I think of Pagan moving forward, but see the above. I actually preferred Victorino amongst the older CFers, and probably still do.

Is Pagan the most underrated player in the game today? (http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/the-most-underrated-player-in-baseball-2/)

I'm still wondering if he is really a 4th outfielder who had a nice season like Andres Torres, or if he is a legit 5 WAR CFer.

I tend to think the former personally.

As a Met fan who has watched a lot of Pagan, he appears to be an enigma 11 was a bad year for him for sure. I am not sure he will prove to be worth the contract. He will probably have up and down years. He never seemed to be consistent for us at least.

Im all about feeling. Stats, and health are bunk in the name of happy. Be happy, you are simply invincible.

Sizemore, I like him. He has a good smile. If he comes to SF he'll fit right in and I bet were looking at a superstar.

The idea of being injury prone is no more than a mucked mine stepping on his own feet. Sign him!
