"So I want to do it the best that I can and Iím going to take everything in I can to get what I can out of the NBA. Which, for me, is winning a championship," Howard said. "So if I have to play on another team or do whatever I have to do to get one, thatís my goal. This is my passion, so Iíll continue to fight."

Howard sounds like he doesn't think the Lakers can win a ring.

Dwights an overrated drama queen, been the same player for the last few years. Doesn't develop anything new that you'd think a 26 year old superstar would do. (Still no offensive game, still couldn't make 2 free throws if his life depended on it)

I'd make him shoot 50 free throws a game, it'd be so easy to beat the Lakers

SirSkyHook
12-03-2012, 12:32 PM
This dude is killing his career everytime he opens his mouth. How about work on your post game and freethrows? No ring chasing is better, this clown is pathetic, and one hell of a cancer.

A reporter asked him what did he think about Kobe saying he would like to see Howard get mad and dominate or something like that Dwights response was Im not goona stop smiling and having fun out ther....... Thats the problem kid your playing to much, and you need to get serious, even Lebron learned that.

I listen to the postgame interview the reporter was refferring to and what Kobe said was the other players ( excluding himself) feed off of Dwight on the court, so if he gets angry and or serious, so follows his teammates.Him getting angry isnt for him, it's for his teammates .But a comment like this ring chasing one shows how much about self he is. No one is asking him to change his game, though he should learn a post game until he's 100%, but change his approach, becuase his additutde towards the game has him ringless.

Why is it that so few think any deeper than soundbites and quotes anymore?

Between the writer and everyone talking about this; two questions for you:

1. Have you looked at the 2013 cap room of the contending teams?
2. If so, how many of them have $20,000,000 available to spend?

I honestly would not lose any sleep if Howard left or was traded. I never was too high about that trade in the first place considering his track record. From what I've seen on the court, his production is no better than Bynum's when he was here except Bynum was a much better FT shooter.

I did for a long time, now, sure I guess but not as bad. Just got to thinking about that team on paper, a lot of versatility and distribution from the top and post. Have Deng and Kobe just slashing with Noah and Nash feeding them. Also would give Pau room to work off of Noah, who would find him down low constantly and be there for every putback.

But what if he goes to OKC, Spurs, Nets, Memphis, Clippers, Knicks or HEAT... and signs for the super cheap just to win that 1 ring ( so none of these teams have to give up anyone for him )... You don't think he will win a ring?

Then he could go back and sign that big contract with someone.

This is AWESOME!!!! Exactly what LAL deserves, especially how they've been treating Pau and Phil Jackson.

Jim buss is going to run this team into the ground.

That said, I think it would be nice to see Cleveland land him. Not that i expect them to, in fact, I'm not even sure they have the capspace, but it would be nice to see Cavs fans get something in return for the LBJ debacle. Anderson-V and Howard in the front court with Irving in the back? That's be pretty sweet!

Seriously, like 20% of Laker fans are like you, they literally root for the Lakers to lose and screw up almost all year.

They bash Kobe, trash Mike Brown; when Phil was here they trash Phil. They trash Jim Buss. Then the Lakers win a title and they go "wheeeeeeee yay Lakers"!

Freakin' whatever. Magic Johnson and everybody else who is currently rooting for the Lakers to lose, for Kobe not to get #6 and #7, for Nash to be a bust, for DAn'toni's offense to fail, and for Dwight to leave and Buss to sell the team should just listen to what their butttholes are telling them and put on their lobcity tee shirts and become Clipper fans.

See, this kind of thing right here is why I don't feel guilty when the Lakers run the table like 3 years in a row, and every other team's fans is whining and I just ridicule the **** out of them.

People can talk smack now, but after the Lakers beat the Spurs and then OKC in the playoffs, and then beat Miami and put Lebron at 1-3 in the Finals, and we hear the flood of excuses and whining from everybody from here to Basston, it just makes it all worth it.

Gasol for Chandler and another piece.

Seriously, I haven't wanted to say anything so far because I like Pau Gasol, but I am getting extremely tired of seeing these weak-*** 4-11 or 2-12 games every night.

Like he thinks he is doing his part because he gets 7 rebounds and 2 assists in 35 minutes or whatever.

If a team is willing to give us something good for him we should just take it and not even worry about it.

Does not surprise me. Playing with Paul and Dirk in Dallas or in ATL with his boy, Teague, and Horford, or HOU with Lin, Harden, Asik, and the rest of their talented squad.

There are better options for him out there than a Mike D'Antoni team with old players. That system is not built to win in the playoffs.

I can almost assure you Kobe told Dwight to make a comment like that, just to light a fire under owneriships *****.

Kobe did the same when he demanded to be traded years ago. And look what it did, it got the Lakers a Pau in his prime and 2 rings immediately.

Good strategy and it keeps ownership and GM in check and doing work. They need to trade Pau now. You can even see the frustration in Dwight's eyes when Pau lets guards run past him to the hoop. And after Kobe's comment on Pau having to wear "big boy pants" last night, its clear Kobe and Dwight want Pau gone asap. He's a 19 million dollar player playing like a 9 million dollar player. They can do better with that allocated money to improve this current team and system and its more clear by the game.

As a laker fan, im going through a weird transition phase today.

I'm just gonna sit back and watch this circus erupt, it'll be entertaining for sure.

So many crazy things could happen soon:
D'Antoni could get fired soon (with the Lakers owners, anything is possible)
Howard could walk away from team after season
Kobe could demand trade or retire.
Pau could get traded.
I could see Artest request a trade if stuff really hits the fan and players start leaving.
Then they're left with Steve Nash, a hall-of-famer who's just sitting on the sidelines watching the show play itself out, lol.

OR, none of the above will happen. The team will overcome this, play well, make it to the finals. Dwight signs long term, kobe retires after next season, lakers build the future around Dwight, they win more rings. Happe Ending.

I'm just gonna sit back, grab my popcorn, and enjoy the ride. Kobe already got his 5 rings and the Lakers have done well in the past decade, a 1-2 year period of a circus-drama mess could shake this organization for the good and prepare if for the 2014 free agent class :)

Dont include nash in your sentence, he hasn't played with this squad yet. He's still sitting on the sidelines till most likely January.

Gasol simply does not belong in a D'Antoni system. Its pathetic seeing him in this system, makes him look so lost.

So you're left with Dwight and Kobe, which are the only 2 guys holding the team up right now, a bunch of scrubs who have never played together, a new coach, etc.. Both Kobe and Dwight are frustrated.

I CALLED IT. I said don't be surprised if Howard starts a trade demand if the Laker chemistry doesn't work out.

Say what you want about Carmelo but when the Knicks were in this position last year, he didn't react and whine about it in an immature manner. He took the media's punches. This tool can't take any criticism.

It's his fault, they are losing games against lottery teams.

Asik to PF, Parsons to SF.

Sounds like a sick starting 5. :speechless:

Asik has no jump shot, and a very raw post up game.

Lots of better choices for PF than Asik floating around. No way I see the Rockets keeping Asik if Howard ever decides to run to Houston.

Odds are still that Howard stays with the Lakers, but I don't think it's guaranteed money at this point.

So now it's a clever strategy..

This is what everyone wanted, the Lakers are struggling, but once things start clicking around Christmas everyone will change their tune. I can barely go into the Lakers forum anymore because all the panic threads make me sick, now its spilling into the NBA forum:facepalm:

This team will be fine and Dwight will resign, people on this forum should go work for ESPN you guys take things out of context way to much. Hell even ESPN didnt run with this story lol

Pau will be given a little time once Nash returns and if hes not performing he will be shipped out for a stretch 4. Andersons name is being heard much more frequently these days.....

Art thou angry?

It's fact. He did not want to be there.

I do not know what this has to do with Nets fans. Every fan base knew where Dwight wanted to go and as long as there are legit teams out there capable of signing him, the Lakers should be worried.

I just said I'm glad he's not giving me headaches any more. How is that talking smack?

You called him and he told you that personally? There are plenty of free agents in the 2014 class that would be great with Howard. Get over it he didnt get traded to the nets and will most likely retire a laker.

Howard sounds like he doesn't think the Lakers can win a ring.

You do realize he didn't say he might leave the lakers right? He was saying this mainly to say he moved to another team to win another ring saying he did what was best for him and went to the lakers the organization that every year if they don't win a championship then it's a total bust! read between the lines, Dwight is not saying he wants to leave the Lakers to get rings. The title of the thread is made up and not a quote. Dwight is trying to give a thoughtful answer and say that titles mean the most to him, something that every athlete in the NBA is saying nowadays. No NBA player worth his Gatorade contract says something like "yeah, titles don't mean anything to me, what matters to me is being a Dallas Maverick and playing here forever."

Agents don't tell them to say that, and it hurts negotiating leverage. Dwight is just trying to give a thoughtful answer to a reporter's question.

Seriiously, though, if Dwight did want to leave, or did demand a trade, then he would be traded or let go very very quickly. That's something a lot of people don't seem to understand, that LA is not Orlando.

The Lakers don't keep players on their roster that want to be somewhere else, not even for one day, even if they are Shaq. Kobe himself came within an inch of getting traded, until he had a long talk with Dr Buss and changed his mind, deciding to stay in LA and become an immortal legend with 2 extra championships and probably more still to come.

Asik has a lot of value

The HOU Rockets have been very savvy in recent years

Exactly this ^

Asik is young and unrefined, but he can be refined into something dangerous. Sure, he has no great shooting prowess, but he's over 55% this season which is supposedly unheard of for a Center (in a good way) plus he's a staunch defender, rebounder and blocker - all good qualities that can be transposed into a post-up power forward.

A new "twin-towers" could be born if Howard found his way to Houston and both attend Olajuwon's big man camp in the off season, and in the event Howard needs a breather, Asik can swing to the 5 and Patterson can pick up the 4, or all 3 can be rotated around to keep them fresh in the later parts of the season.

12-03-2012, 04:25 PM
The "I dont see dwight turning down 25 million" argument is not really that good in Dwights case.

He's still relatively young. That "extra year" the lakers can offer him will just be the 1st year of his next contract after the one he signs after this season. Its not like that "extra 25 million" is being lost, he'll still get it, just in the form of year 1 of another contract in about 5-6 years...

Only way he'd actually lose out on that extra 25 million is if he were to have a career ending injury in the next few years. I think its a risk Dwight would be willing to take if it meant more rings. He's already making hundreds of millions of dollars anyway.

It doesn't matter what you've done in the past anyway. The Yankees are by far the most successful in all of sports and they haven't won a title in awhile.

You sunk yourself right there. That means you are the 2nd most successful in the NBA alone.

It doesn't matter what you've done in the past anyway. The Yankees are by far the most successful in all of sports and they haven't won a title in awhile.

Even if there was no salary cap teams like Portland, DAL, NYK, and now Brooklyn would be better since they are the riches owners in the league.

Lol ok I guess since the celtics won most of their championships during a time where there were 8 teams they matter more? Plus they may be rich owners that doesn't mean they'll spend

The lakers have Jerry buss and the Hollywood spotlight plus the nets have only had that owner for what 2 years? Please the buss family has been around forever

I was referring to your comment that lakers would be able to buy championships like the yankees. I said they wouldnt win anymore because the Nets have a billionaire russian owner. So, they've been around forever... that doesnt mean they have more money.

i dont care what you guys say to me about this.

1) I'm beyond happy this is happening to the Lakers - losing games and "if" they lose Dwight...they try to buy championships and you fans think that it automatically wins you a championship.
2) I'm beyond happy this is happening to Dwight Howard - tries to go to a big market team, with other superstars, and sure enough, doesn't believe he can win. Whether they can or can't, we wont know, but its still great to see.

With that said, SMALL sample size... when playoffs come, it is a totally different situation. Doubt he leaves, and don't think you guys should take this comment from him the way you are.

In the interest of giving Howard the benefit of the doubt, it's important to note that we don't know the context in which he offered the remark to Denton. While I don't have any particular reason to doubt Denton's reporting, it is within the realm of possibility that what Howard meant to reference in using the phrase "if I have to play on another team" was his much-discussed exit from Orlando, a topic about which he was asked ó again, and again, and again ó in both the lead-up to and aftermath of Sunday night's game, rather than an eventual departure from Staples Center.

I don't care how the good the guy is, I would never want him on my team. I don't think a team can win the title with someone so cancerous. How many did TO win? That said he does kind of have a point here. He went to an old team that is no where close to the dominant team people guaranteed they would be. Now they may have hired the wrong coach on top of that. I keep saying I think they will be fine, but will that be good enough for TO Howard?

You start with...

Name me a franchise in American sports who's been more successful then the lakers?
We have the most finals appearances(have made about half of them)
2nd most championships
Always have the best players
Have had the best and some of the greatest coaches ever

Please don't facepalm something that's the absolute truth

And when that's proven absolutely, factually wrong, you come back with....

Celtics 1 more championship (most of them won with only 8 teams in the league) hadn't been relevant for years, lakers have highest win percentage in the history of the NBA ...

Yankees how many teams back then were and even are as rich as the Yankees? Yankees aren't even relevant anymore they won't make the playoffs next year a-rod is done jeter is fat, Ichiro is done, teixera is past his prime overpaid players will haunt the Yankees for the next 4-5 years they need to find a way to get rid of those players

The Lakers started in 1948, the Celtics in 1946. Not much of a time difference. 5 of the Lakers' championships were between 1948 and 1953.

And really, a Lakers fan complaining about a Rich and Overspending franchise? Really? REALLY? REALLY?!?!

Wait, what's that sound?

Oh right, that's your $100,000,000 Team Salary crashing into the floorboards after getting OWNED by the Magic. The 5-10, 11th seed Magic. The Magic fans thank you for that 6th Win. After losing to the 3-7 Toronto Raptors, they really needed a nice soft Schedule Win like the Lakers.

No worry, all will be well. I'm sure that being in 8th seed behind the LA Clippers, Utah, Golden State and the All Rookie Team in HOUSTON is making you feel all moist inside.

And keep taking shots at the Yankees... how are those Angels doing with their $154,940,524 team salary? How are things looking in 6th place? I'm sure the Yankees are really worried given they're 6 games ahead and LEADING the American League.

In all seriousness, Stop. Just Stop.

The Lakers will be fine. Dwight will stay or Dwight will go.

And some self-delusions will live on...

He most definitely does not have the same career path as Shaq. Shaq was a dominant force on the offensive end in his prime that Dwight will never achieve unless he learns post moves. Shaq was a horrible FT shooter as well but was so strong going to the basket it made no difference.

Plus Shaq played in an era of great big men. Ewing, Olajuwon, Robinson, etc. Who does Dwight need to stack up against that is so great?

So many people are calling for Pau's head which is idiotic because Dwight is playing equally as brutal while playing closer to the basket.

LA need a real PF to pair with Pau or Dwight. Personally I would look into JSmoove for Dwight not JSmoove for Pau. Otherwise if they are going to build around Dwight they need a stretch 4.
