View Full Version : How will the Lakers ever go far without playing defense?

Wow, since D'Antoni came their defense has been even worse. They've been one of the worst defensive teams in the league.

They've let up over 100 almost every game he's coached.

This isn't a bait thread. It's a serious question. Can their team be legitimate if they don't play defense?

The defense is basically up to Dwight.

Lakers can win games like this for sure, but eventually Dwight is going to wear down. Guy is working overtime.

In fairness Dwight's not fully healthy.

In fairness Dwight's not fully healthy.

Even if he's not fully healthy, no one else on the team is going to be coached to play defense.

I have a first hand look. Mike D'Antoni used to be my team's coach. Their defense was awful for four years. Mike Woodson comes in and motivates a lot of the same guys to be a top defensive team. That's why the Knicks are 12-4.

Howard might be DPOY every year, but if everyone else doesn't care about help defense and shutting down their own man, it won't matter.

I'm not even going to get into this.

Howard is not who we thought he was. He's limited offensively, awful FT shooter, and bad defender(this season). He's missing rotations, and f-ing terrible in the pick n roll.

Lakers only hope is to trade for Jameer and Reddick, the only 2 players who make Dwight work

If the Lakers could hit their free throws, they'd win.

If Miranda Kerr was fat, she wouldn't be hot.

dont worry about how many points they give up. they went from playing one of the slowest paces under brown, to one of the fastest paces under mike d.

but there perimiter d and pick and roll d is awful, and will get worse when nash returns

Yeah. We should play like the Knicks.

Lakers can be like the Suns from 04-08. But the Suns never won a title or even sniffed the Finals....so keep that in mind.

Yeah. We should play like the Knicks.

Not sure if joking or being honest. :eyebrow:

I'd bet my last dollar the Lakers would beat New York in a 7-game series (just sayin'). So defense isn't always everything. An average Lakers defense will get them to the promised land and I feel they'll get there as the season progresses.
