Easily the best time of the off-season. Each day filled with FA signings/trades/rumors etc

What do you want your fav. team to do? What players should they target/ and what kind of big moves do you see happening across the league?

I see the Nationals going and signing Greinke (just a hunch on this one)
I see Hamilton heading back to Texas.
I see some team overpaying big time for Dempster.

For the Brewers, I hope we sign either Grilli or Adams and then one of the LHRP (Howell or Burnett) Also hope we go after a SP on a 1 yr deal, McCarthy, Liriano etc.

I see Yankees making a trade for a right fielder. Maybe Choo. Or Morse.

I see Greinke heading to Dodgers

Swisher to Red Sox

Justin Upton to Atlanta.,.

I think Bourn will sign with the Cubs
Hamilton will go to the Phillies/ Red Sox
Greinke signing with the Brewers
Brian Wilson to the Mets
Adam LaRoche to the Red Sox

I don't really see the Nats making a push for Greinke since they don't really need him. Strasburg, Gio, Zimmermann, Detwiler is a very good 1-4. He'd be a luxury and I can't see them spending that much.

As for the OP, I hope the Giants sign Swisher to a four-year deal averaging 12M-13M/year.

Honestly, I have 0 idea how he figures it's hard to see a fit for Butler in Baltimore. They want young pitching and it seems like Arrieta/Britton/Matusz are all pretty well liked around the league. Would rather keep Tillman, but he could move in right deal. DD has said he wants a MOO bat, Butler fits that description.

It's all about value and potential, which teams value obviously and have shown.

None of them have the potential, or have shown anywhere near the MLB potential that they once had.

The Royals aren't looking for potential if they're dealing Butler or Hosmer. In the end, they're looking for actualities. It doesn't make sense for the Royals to bring in guys like Guthrie and Santana at those prices to only turn around and trade Butler/Hosmer for a bunch of guys who had potential a few years back but have thus far, shown little of it in the majors.

They'd be dealing them for guys who are on the level of Butler and Hosmer already.

Again, I could be wrong and this report might not be accurate, but I know there was a lot of talk around the Padres an Orioles in a Headley/Arrieta deal. I know we weren't adding much more than that for Headley if I remember right but we turned it down.

Again, that could have been inaccurate, I just know Arrieta for one has some good value around the league. Tillman was a whole different pitcher and was one of our best in that final half of last year. I think he could be close to fetching Hosmer.

Look at the year Tillman had and look at the year Hosmer had. Tillman was on the upswing and Hosmer hit like .230 with a .300 OBP last year.

Well he is pretty damn old, what do you expect to get for him?

I remember when 41 year old Randy Johnson signed with the Yankees. It's sort of the same thing. He is still good, but how much longer is he going to be good? His decline has to be close.

Well i think Met fans are not sure about Flores being able to play another position besides 3rd.

His hitting would translate very well at 2nd base if he could play there.

Hamilton is at the Winter Meetings, report Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports, and Mariners officials met with him Sunday. They go on to write that other teams have met with Hamilton, but the Rangers are "currently working the hardest to sign him." Rangers GM Jon Daniels told reporters today that so far he has no plans to speak with Hamilton or his agent this week at the Meetings. The Brewers are on the periphery for Hamilton, note Rosenthal and Morosi.

If, I am the Mets I ask for Myers, Joseph and Lough for that package.

The royals are getting a 26 year old # 2 starter (#1 on the Royals) and 2 top 100 prospects. Familia can step in and be the number 4 starter on that team this year. Too much for just Myers. Include Joseph and Lough and maybe.

Not sure what you expected. A lot of smaller names signing, and I'd consider Napoli/Victorino as decent splashes, regardless of my being a Sox fan. Lots of talking about some huge free agents and where they may end up.

Not sure what you expected. A lot of smaller names signing, and I'd consider Napoli/Victorino as decent splashes, regardless of my being a Sox fan. Lots of talking about some huge free agents and where they may end up.

I've enjoyed checking my phone constantly for the latest rumor. It's the best part of any offseason for any sport.

Last few years have been pandemonium from what I remember

Yep, Marlins and Angels made big splashes last winter meetings. No one really did that this year. Still need the Greinke chip to fall so we can start seeing the market clear up for the next tier of starters too.

I think the difference from last year (Pujols and Reyes to name a few) is this years market is very odd. Hamilton wants 7 years, teams are offering 3-4. That's a huge difference. And as for pitchers, most are in a holding pattern waiting for Grienke. He's the one I'm a little surprised hasn't been signed during the winter meetings so far; he has a legitimate market.

it really seems like grienke wants nothing to do with the dodgers and is just waiting for the rangers to get their outfielder

Writers and people in Texas seem to believe Texas is softening their stance on trading Elvis in order to acquire Upton. Getting interesting...

Per @ProspectInsider's Jason Churchill (http://bit.ly/VobBDc ), TEX "has given indications they are willing to move Elvis" for Justin Upton

I don't see why Greinke should sign anytime soon since upwards of 20 teams have interest in him and he knows the Dodgers are going to spend big. He's just letting them have their bidding war since he knows he's in high demand, there is at least one team that will pay an absurd amount for him, and he's easily the best pitcher available (and probably the best one that will be available the next few years via FA).

The Mariners are making a big push for Hamilton, writes Geoff Baker of the Seattle Times, and talks are more serious between the two sides than has been let on. The holdup, not surprisingly, is the Rangers' ongoing pursuit of Greinke. If Greinke does land in Texas, Baker writes that the Mariners could make a deal for Hamilton happen "very soon" afterward.

Hamilton deal probably isn't going to happen until somebody signs Greinke since the Rangers are involved there.

M's signing Hamilton would probably be the biggest mistake the franchise has ever made.....

(even with losing A-Rod, Griffey, and Randy Johnson, on a team that also had Edgar Martinez and eventually Ichiro - of course, they lost each under different and varying circumstances)

Not many teams can support 5 hall of famers in their prime...unless they are the Yankees.

Hamilton would really hurt that franchise.

Speaking of the M's though, aside from Hamilton here.

If they had kept everybody from their time in Seattle on.

Griffey - 89-10 CF
Ichiro - 01-present RF
A-Rod - 94-present SS
Edgar - 87-04 3B/DH
Randy Johnson - 89-09 SP

Make it 6, and add Felix Hernandez 05-present

That's five hall of famers all together at least from 01-04, and basically all of the 90's and 00's. They would have won something, I'm certain.

But....you trade some away, or some guy gets a quarter of a billion to play for a rival...and **** happens. But what a team this could have been.

Back on topic though, Josh Hamilton would be a really really bad choice for Seattle unless they can get him on a 3 year deal, and even then, it's probably a giant waste of money.

Nah, our offense is terrible. Adding a top 10 hitter in the game would be a great move.

I was all for trading Elvis and some for Upton earlier, but I'm kinda worried about what an Elvisless team would look like. I've just gotten so used to watching him play, although it would probably be for the best if it meant acquiring Justin Upton and having Profar play SS full time.

Don't know if this has been posted yet, but the Phillies and Rangers are talking about Michael Young. Texas would get back a young ML reliever and some low level prospects. I would feel so bad for the guy if Texas won it all in 2013 without him.

In a huge ballpark on a player that needs a short porch for sustained success that can't hit outside fastballs and has gigantic holes in his swing.

And he is more of a top 15ish hitter, but I guess he can try and lay claim to top 10.

But he would not do well in Seattle, and he won't improve them nearly enough.
