View Full Version : Best 2nd unit in the league?

KNICKS R BACK
11-29-2012, 08:48 AM
with the new report that Stoudemire is willing to accept a 6th man role, im curious as to who people think has the best 2nd unit in the NBA? assuming Stat really is willing and will be healthy, the knicks have to be in the discussion, no? Kidd, JR Smith, Novak, Stoudemire, Camby/Sheed...pretty damn good, whether its camby or sheed that is the 2nd string center...what other 2nd units in the league stack up with that? i didnt post this in the knicks forum because i want the opinions of the whole NBA community, not just knicks fans...if it isnt the knicks, who has the best 2nd unit in the league?

Knicks have a pretty good bench.

Well Shumpert returns in January, and Mike Woodson has been adamant that players don't lose their starting roles due to injuries. SO even though his first few games he'll probably come off the bench, eventually he'll be put back into the starting lineup.

Knicks definitely have an excellent bench regardless if Amar'e comes off it or starts. I'd also add the Clippers and the Nuggets as teams that have excellent depth off their bench.

I agree the bench is excellent no matter what, but I think Kidd should start. He is a great fit with Ray. Pablo and Amare will be a pick and roll heaven off the bench, but the ball moves so well with Kidd out there. Shumpert is a great defenive player, but he's still young and is shot happy. If he's gonna start he's gotta learn to keep the ball moving, not stopping it.

Except that Amar'e is losing his starting role due to injury......

No surprise another Knicks fan starting a thread wanting attention on their team, but it doesn't change the fact the Clippers have the best bench

Clippers have the best bench so far just because Crawford has been going off. Don't think the Nets have the best bench but maybe top ten.

I am not claiming they are the best 2nd unit in the league, but when the Wolves get healthy they will have a 2nd unit of:

Barea/Ridnour
Shved/Roy
Cunningham
Williams
Steimsma

Pretty decent for a second unit.

If Stackhouse continues to shoot lights out from behind the arc, then I think the Nets could be in discussion as well.

Spurs and Clippers are crazy deep.

Knicks with Stat and Shump back will have a very strong bench as well.

You have to account for how many minutes they play. If you sort it by per 48 the entire list pretty much gets re-shuffled.

Having amare playing on the second unit at five would awsome. He would recking teams.
