To those of you expecting a good game with Spurs/Heat keep in mind a few things:

1. Spurs are playing there 4th game in 5 nights on a 2nd night of a back to back
2. Miami has had the last 4 days off
3. The Spurs are missing their 2 best perimeter defenders in Jackson/Leonard
4. This is the tail end of a 6 game road trip, with Memphis coming to town on Saturday

In all honesty, I expect Miami to win. Unless Duncan and Parker go into God Mode while the shooters can't miss, then I don't see it. I'd imagine Miami knows all of this and will try and jump on them early, which is what good teams do.

If Miami takes this game seriously and plays it like it was a playoff games, I expect for Miami to win, otherwise they are gonna lose, which I think will actually happen.

I think the Spurs are too good a team to not have a chance to win. If anything could bite the Spurs, it's the fact they're missing Leonard and Jackson, who kills the Heat regularly. But, we've had issues containing quick PGs and who knows what Duncan could do, not to mention Ginobli. LBJ and Wade just attack with relentless force, but sometimes they love to settle.

the problem is that duncan and parker play the positions that miami is weak in.
I expect it to be competitive. Spurs are still deep.

if miami comes out and takes the spurs serious which i think they will they should be able to win this with all the rest they've had. battier is out but the spurs are missing 2 good players and coming off a hectic stretch of games. my only worry is the heat haven't been taking their opponents seriously so far this season it seems, and are kinda cocky thinking they can just show up in the last few minutes and pull out the win. if they do that vs the spurs it likely won't turn out well.

I'll give you that, if they settle it does give us a better chance. But I think those guys know the situation, I'd be shocked if they aren't in attack mode from the tip.

To have a chance, Parker has to do the same and constantly live in the paint. And Duncan has to have a presence. In the pre-season, he had his way with Bosh on both ends. That kind of thing in itself can be motivation to come out and get going early.

I'm hoping Pop throws a little zone defense every now and then, cause we just don't have the man power to defend man-man all night IMO.

No doubt. But they've played something like 6 games in 8 days all together on this road trip. And not having Jackson/Leonard hurts the depth. My concern is Miami is fresh and ready to go.

TP and TD need to have a big impact on the game for the reasons you said. I just hope they have enough left for tonight.

The schedule benefits the Spurs. They only have like 7 road games the last two months of the regular season.

But yeah, the big three + Green out tonight, on top of Stephen Jackson and Kawhi Leonard out with their injuries.

Lol Popovich. Would make it more embarassing should Miami not win. That's all I'll say. Hopefully we don't slack off and just take care of business. We've been doing way TOO much of that.

kdspurman, let's hope the next meeting is at a more convenient portion of the schedule.

Spurs should not be allowed to do that. For the fans whom this game is played for. . .

If I live in Canada and Tim Duncan and Dwyane Wade are my 2 favorite players so I buy tickets for this game and find out Timmy is healthy and not only not playing but not only in the building? IMO B.S.

Gilbert Arenas did this **** to me before when he was one of my favorite players.

Personally, I thought they should've played because they've been playing so well. But I guess Pop knows his guys more and feels like they got the short end of the stick with this.

Makes me wonder if they weren't already undermanned would he have played his guys or not.

When you look at the schedule they've played, this being their 11th road game, I can see why Pop did it. But it is bad for the fans, and I was really hoping they all played tonight.

But at the same time, it's the coaches job to make those decisions to know what's best for their team and players. It's not much different than at the end of the season when other teams do it too. If you say it's not allowed now, then you're also saying it shouldn't be allowed late in the season when teams have already wrapped up a Playoff seed and don't want to risk injury.

Quotes from Adam Silver last year about this

Jeff Zillgitt ‏@JeffZillgitt
Adam Silver in April: "The strategic resting of particular players on particular nights is within the discretion of the teams."

Jeff Zillgitt ‏@JeffZillgitt
More from Silver in April: "And Gregg Popovich in particular is probably the last coach that I would second-guess."

It's a business.

As much as it hurts me to say this, Stern is right. It boils down to the Fans paying the players and coaches salaries. If the Fan is rejected the opportunity to view a player due to the fact that the coach is not playing him for no reason, it isn't right.

no one plays down their opponent like miami, its sad but it is what it is. as for the people saying it shouldn't have been a game, no ****, but the spurs played really well and it was a competitive game. props to the spurs. miami is 11-3 on the season :) not bad for a team thats coasting till the playoffs ;)

Great effort from the 2nd and 3rd string guys. It took awhile for Miami to take em seriously. Ray did what he does, if Spurs can come away with that steal the outcome might've been different, but Lebron got it and got it to Ray.

Funny story, Javale McGee was on his way to monster games against us in both meetings, and he barely sniffed the floor in the 4th quarters. It's puzzling considering he's always produced when he gets court time. It doesn't make much sense if you ask me....

Definitely Stebo. I just don't get what Karl's doing. I mean Koufos plays 3 more mpg than Javele. Javele is putting in 11 points and 6 rebounds to go along with 2 blocks in 19 mins. Your paying McGee like 10 mill a year as well. Not understanding the logic here.

What really doesn't fit D'antoni's system is two centers clogging the lane. D. Lee isn't out there shooting threes, he'll play the block enough. And he's definitely no prize defensively I agree. But with the offense and rebounding ability you take it. Plus, David Lee never misses games. Very underrated advantage. Amare for example is hardly in the NBA.

I'm kinda down on this team right now after a performance like that. If you're a Heat fan though you aren't surprised a game like this was so close given that Miami isn't playing with any effort right now. They're winning games on pure talent alone, and it's sickening to watch as a fan. Unprofessional if you ask me, but I don't want to come across as so dismissive of the Spurs. You have to hand it to them, they play hard every night.

I completely agree with the poster that said the Spurs were the true winners last night even though they lost. Miami didn't deserve to win.
