View Full Version : Gortat unhappy with role on new Suns team

Unfortunately, in my case Ė for worse. Iím certainly not the player I was last season, I need to find my place in the new order. Iím still capable of helping this team, and regularly recording a double double, but when the ball sticks to one person on offence, itís hard to find a good rhythmÖ.

Unfortunately, my two strongest plays Ė the pick and roll and post-ups have been taken away from me. Itís not easy, we have a lot of plays that donít include me. And my chemistry with Goran Dragic hasnít been quite equal to what I had with Steve. These are things that we need to work onÖ.

Unfortunately, I donít think Iím even an option for (coach Alvin) Gentry. He doesnít even take me into consideration. The situation is critical. Weíre playing the same thing weíve been playing last year, but the truth is we have a completely different set of players. I donít think it really works. I canít get frustrated now though, I have to stay positive.

Iím not sure anyone expected differently this season, with Nash gone and Michael Beasley, Goran Dragic and Luis Scola getting more touches. Well, nobody except Gortat.

Gortat reportedly turned down discussion of a contract extension in Phoenix (he is making $7.3 million this season $7.7 million the next). The publication also said he could be traded, but frankly on the rebuilding Suns there isnít a player thatís not available.

This is the team he signed an offer sheet with in the '09 or '10 offseason if my memory serves me correctly.

This seems a more reasonable option for the spurs then Jefferson TBH

Gortat was brainwashed into thinking he's a go to guy in the post, he needs to realize he don't got that kind of pedigree, he's so obviously an energy player/ pick n roll option that even a blind man could see it.

Well, considering he was as productive as he was last year, and as effective as he was, I'm surprised that the Suns aren't focusing on him more. He is an under-developed talent. Let's face if. Scola is good, but he's as good as he's ever going to be. Gortat has potential to be more than he is right now. Scola is 32. At this point in his career, he is a role player. Gortat is 28... you get him into a 20/10 player, you got another 5 or 6 years with him playing at that level. I understand investing in Beasley, he is a younger player with potential (and issues). And Dragic likewise is a talented young player just coming into his own. But I would be trying to run some P&R plays with Dragic and Gortat.

As for Gentry... well... he's a good coach, and this team isn't going to be making the playoffs with this roster, so I don't expect him to work miracles, but at the same time, it's not a good sign when you have players openly criticising you. This is a nightmare situation for him.. they aren't winning and one of the more talented players on his roster is opening criticisng him. I mean, if we heard Kobe talk like this about the coach, that guy would be fired! All Kobe had to do was give his coach a contempuous stare and it got him fired!

Maybe Gentry can start running some plays for him. Or the Suns can trade him.. I imagine he's got a high trade value after the season he had last year...

The man has a point. How the hell is Beasley getting 15 shots a game when he's only making 5.5? Gortat is still nearly averaging a double-double and deserves at least as many looks as Beasley.

I've give both Dudley and Gortat if we could get both back (Lamb and Jones). Figure OKC is in win now mode and getting two really good role players on good contracts could be worth it for them. Also, they'd be dumping perk on us.

I think they should try to shop Beasley around for defensive/veteran presence at the 3. Let Dragic/Gortat develop their 2-man game together, with shooters surrounding them it can work.

Nash doesn't "make" players. That's dumb. He will help their ppg and efficiency though. Gortat did get 15 ppg last year and had a super high fg%. He would have shot 60% if he didn't miss so many easy shots. He literally missed 1-3 lay ups per game. But he is a Great pick and roll big. That should not be underestimated.

Okay... so Gortat is unhappy because Dragic doesn't run enough P&R plays which is Gortat's bread and butter... meanwhile in Houston there's an issue about Harden and Lin both needing the ball in their hands because the P&R is their main go-to play.

Sounds perfect to me. Swap Dragic for Lin. Definately a win for Houston, and while I'm not so sure about Phoenix... at least Gortat would stop whining.

Dragic is probably the best player on our team (or close to it) and the fans love him. He's not the issue. If Gentry wants to start running pick and rolls, Dragic is more than capable of doing so. He's not going anywhere, especially not for Lin.
