View Full Version : Lins Potential: Comparison?

Just so we're clear here. I do not want any of my fellow knicks fans whining about losing lin, i just would like to discuss his potential. I've seen a few of the rockets games (more because of harden than lin) and there is one bolstering comparison in my mind:

Russell Westbrook. The rebound/assist numbers are very similar but stats obviously do not tell the whole story (see their respective PPG). The play styles are what is so intriging, both love to shoot(Sg's in a pg's body) and body attack the basket recklessly.

what i'm asking here is, can lin reach the same level that westbrook has reached? In my mind, Lin is a baby westbrook/poor man's westbrook. whatever you wanna call it

Raymond Felton is better than chalmers x10. If Felton is garbage chalmers should retire and work at target

I don't think lin would live up to what he did in New York again, let alone get on westbrook's level. I think lin is an average point guard.

I don't know. He's pretty darn unique. I don't see much Westbrook in him.

He's Jeremy Lin. I don't get the obsession in comparing players to other players all the time.

WTF?!?!?! Russell Westbrook comparison is horrible. Westbrook relies alot on his strength and athleticism to get his shots, while Lin relies on cunning/clever tricks to get his.

i'm not whining about lin. in all honestly i never liked him much. i'm just curious as to what other people think about him now that he's NOT a knick. it seems anyone in a knick uniform is hammered constantly, so i figured now was a good time to ask the question.

The guy's not even on your team anymore, yet Knick fans have to flood the NBA forum with 3 dozen threads telling us they are glad they don't have Lin and trying to convince us what a stud Felton is. These are the same guys that were cheering and flooding the forum last year with stupid Linsanity posts every hour on the hour. What other organizations fans are so obsessed and vindictive over an ex player?

I don't actually see a single Knick fan saying a bad thing about the guy. As a matter of fact, the OP praised Lin by comparing him to Westy. How is that at all vindictive?

And the only reason Felton was even defended at all in this thread is cause Dnewguy felt like trolling and talked **** on Felton.

It sounds like you are getting a little upset over nothing there

This is a very interesting comparison. I'd say he's like Dragic without a perimeter game in general.

But the more I see him play, the more I recognize he has very good court vision and is capable of being an 8 or 9 assist per game type of guy. That's quite impressive for an undrafted player, and something I think is attainable for him. His passing skills are underrated and his scoring skills are overrated.

All in all, he's a good young prospect who i'm sure would've been a lottery pick if they redid that years draft. Not too shabby.

I actually remember a thread last year by a Knicks poster in the Knick forum trying to compare Lin with Westy. That's a very unfair comparison to make, they're nothing alike. Defensively, Russell is an animal who has All NBA defense potential. His full court pressure defense is some of the most suffocating I've ever seen from a PG.

While they both attack the paint, Westy is a lot better at it, more athletic and can finish stronger than Lin in the paint. Both of their jumpers suck, but I give the slight edge to Westy.

Russell still has to learn the PG game. The guy only had 1 year at UCLA I believe and than he was thrusted into the starting guard role for the Thunder. Like the Center position, the PG position takes years to hone in on the craft and become good at it. Westy to me has a chance to be a superstar conerstone franchise player for the next 5-7 years, whereas Lin has a chance to carve himself out a good and long career.

Westbrook is bigger, faster, and stronger. I think if you want to compare Lin to a PG that has already reach elite status Tony Parker is the guy he most resembles

I've seen just about every Rocket game and I agree I'm not seeing the same Jeremy Lin from last year. He doesn't have that attack the basket mentality he's deferring too much to harden, overpassing. I'm hoping he fixes all of this within time once Mchale comes back and he figures things out a bit more. Even under Woodson he still had that attack the basket mentality.

Jeremy Lin is more of a Toney Parker then Westbrook. He has good court vision and can attack and finish with contact.

I love Lin's game but he is nowhere near Westbrook in comparison. Lin has got to be one of the worst point guards in this league, if you look at it from an efficiency standpoint (I believe 37th in the league) There is no doubt that the talent is there, but the Rockets and their fans will just have to be patient with this guy for a bit till his game evens out.
