I think he should definitely be in the discussion this year. Boston is a completely different team without him on the floor. 20asts in 32mins is amazing. Discuss.

Interesting you made this thread on Rondo MVP because this quote just came up from twitter.

Jessica Camerato @JCameratoNBA 2 minutes ago

Rondo: "MVP is in the picture. I would like to be one day, but we've just got to keep winning...Who wouldn't [want to be?] That's a dream."

he should be in the discussion.. but not winning it until he either shoots better or goes all nash and takes the 1st seed in the East.

imo its lebron, durant, melo, kobe, parker over him in no particulr order

Melo for MVP

He isn't the MVP right now.

I don't think so. I think he's overrated in some aspects of the game. He's a great passer with tremendous vision, but some of those assist numbers seem to be a product of Doc Rivers' offense. I don't see him getting 20+ assists with the many other teams.

Plus he's too much of a liability when it comes to his own scoring. Though he's improved, he's still a below-average jump-shooter and free throw shooter. To be MVP, he's going to have to improve some of those weak areas, be THE MAN and lead the Celtivs to a completely unexpected record.

He is in the conversation but not really in the race.

if he averaged 20 points 15 assists and 7 rebound

Yeah, he's a "candidate". Will he win it? No, but he'll continue getting votes, like he did last year.

Which is why I said a candidate.

Hawkeye15

I will say, for Rondo to be a real candidate, he needs to be the best player on his team for the first time in his career.

Lol he has been the best player on his team the whole year. Pierce isn't having a great year and Garnett has been average at best.

for a full season*

don't want other people jumping at you referencing a few games lol
but i agree, he has to be the unquestioned best player on his team for the full season.

That is why 80% of the threads are so ****ing stupid. Until at least midseason, these discussions shouldn't even be taking place in a serious manner.

Hes having a great season, but as good as hes been the Celtics wont start winning until they can learn how to defend without KG on the floor. Thus hes still their MVP.

Your only looking at one side of the ball. KG is still anchoring the Celtics defense at an elite level. Without him on the court they absolutely surrender points.

absolutely should be in the talks. Last year as well. Best pure PG in the NBA.

I like this summation.

The shame is that we could be having a geniune discussion about whether Rondo might make the ALL-NBA 1st Team this season. That would be an accomplishment for him. However, instead the threads that pop up are "Is Rondo the MVP??" "Is Rondo the greatest passer of ALL-Time!??!"

He'll be in the discussion, but he wont finish top 5 when all is said and done.

His team has to win... Right now it looks like it will be between LeBron, Durant, Melo, Parker & CP3

JasonJohnHorn

He is in the discussion for sure.

Is he the MVP? I wouldn't say so at this point, need to see how the season progresses and who else is in the conversation.

But yes, Rondo is, as he was last year in my eyes, in the conversation for MVP.

It's too early in the season, But if we are talking now yes and if he keeps it up then no doubt.

He can only be considered a serious candidate if the Celtics achieve at least 50-55 wins. Historically speaking, they usually give the award to a player on a team with a very successful record.

I thought he was a top 5 MVP candidate for the last couple years. He does so many things for that team and I could only imagine how bad they'd be without him.

There's a ton of players who are "candidates", but at the end of the day Lebron is winning it. And if it's not him, it's Durant.

I love me some rondo, but he's NOT a top 10 player, nevermind a strong mvp candidate.

bigbeardaboss

In order to be an MVP candidate I would think your team has to be a contender and your play is the primary reason why your team is in contention. As of now the Celtics kind of suck, but its not too late for them to turn it around

Yeah... last year he garnered one one hundreth of a percent (0.01).

The official scorer pumps up his assists in Boston. Keep an eye on that.

But so far he's playing about as well as in 2009-2010 - his second best year after 2008-2009.

I think he is:

1. LeBron James
2. Chris Paul
3. Carmelo Anthony
4. Kevin Durant
5. Tim Duncan
6. Rudy Gay
7. Brandon Jennings
8. Zach Randolph
9. Deron Williams
10. Rajon Rondo

Kobe Bryant is a Top 5 MVP candidate, as of Monday Nov 19th. Maybe even Top 3.

Yeah, not with Lebron, KD, CP3, Rose, and Dwight in the league. I don't see him ever even being the top PG at any point in his career.

Tony_Starks
11-25-2012, 10:22 PM
He's a candidate but just like Kobe record isn't good enough. To win Mvp this year your team better have more wins than Lebrons and KD's at the end of the year.... Even then one of them STILL might get

THE MTL
11-25-2012, 10:47 PM
Rondo is definitely in the discussion but I think his team wont have the record to back him up though. Celtics will probi just do enough to make the playoffs on a sub-par seed and see what happens in the postseason.

You have CP3 up there and they have 1 more win than the Lakers. You put Jennings up there and Bucks actually have one win LESS than the Lakers.

It's ok to hate on Kobe man this is psd...... just be open about it like everybody else. Admitting is the first step.
