View Full Version : Is This Current ESPN NBA Crew The Worst of All-Time?

I'm watching them right now and they have Jalen Rose stuttering as he welcomes us back from the commercial. They throw it to Simmons who regurgitates one of his recent blogs. Magic jumps in and doesn't really make much sense. Then Wilbon tries to make a witty point and transition into a new topic...

They all seem out of place. None of it comes off as natural. You would think Wilbon would be the main host and they would format the discussion/show around him... but no. There doesn't seem to even be a format. Also, Wilbon has always came off to me as someone who thinks he is way more important than he actually is. At least on PTI, kornheiser keeps him in check.

-I don't even think it's worth comparing them to the TNT crew but what about past ESPN crews? I didn't really mind Jon Barry on there with Stu Scott and a couple others... it wasn't great, but it was far better than what they are giving us now.

Is this a worry for you guys? Do you even watch the pre-game/halftime shows?

That is kind of insinuating they were ever good... ESPN has never had good analysis or commentary really.

"A worry" would be a stretch, but they're not good. The main problem in my opinion is exactly what you're talking about with the fact that they have no lead/professional host who keeps the conversation flowing smoothly. It's a shared/awkward/disjointed broadcast.

I actually like Simmons random comments, I think he brings some life to what was a previously dead broadcast that basically centered around what Magic said and the rest just agreeing with him. Doesn't help that I'm not a big Magic fan when it comes to commentary. I don't even like the way they sit, to be honest. Not a good pre game, that's for sure. But not entirely terrible now that they have Simmons.

I like Simmons and Rose, who are funny on Grantland. But the chemistry is Laker-like so far.

Simmons actually talked about this on Grantland, and how he has to hold back on certain comments

it's already better than last season. John barry was the worst

Wilbon makes everything terrible.

Not as bad as Magic.

"Lets go in and see what the Magic 8 ball says."

Seriously, it's awful. I liked Barry. Simmons is good too. Don't really like anyone else. I was about to say maybe they could borrow Scal from CSNNE because people would love it but CSN is apart of NBC sports network now so that won't happen.

Ridin da pine I see.

Laker fan here, and yes Magic is atrocious. He makes Shaq look great on TNT

I don't know if I would go as far as saying Magic is worse than Shaq. At least Magic doesn't attempt childish jokes throughout the conversation. Or yell gibberish.

Shaq is to the current TNT crew as Carmelo was to the D'antoni coached Knicks...

both are black holes.

Never got why they don't have Stephen A. Smith doing the pre-game/halftime show... He's the only interesting NBA guy they have

Bill Simmons makes me ****ing sick

Wilbon can get annoying after a while too.

Magic talk to much about both LA teams is so annoying I'm tired of it.
