Don't hold your breath, because you'll be waiting until at least a year from now to hear Trout's name as the MVP.

Interesting

Trout was 4 times the player harper was this year while harper was the more hyped/talked about... :D

Harper is also a year younger, and look up what Trout did last year.

It's worth noting that the ceiling for Harper is immense.

I think he was deserving

22 HR | 9.4 BB% | 20.1 K% | .206 ISO | .270 AVG | .340 OBP | .477 SLG | .352 wOBA | 4.9 fWAR

All of that at 19 years old, I think he's definitely deserving.

I was being silly, he did deserve it. It was him or Miley imo.

It might be but the hype was ridiculous and still is. He had a good year and is young but he could also bust at being such a young age. To many factors involved...The fact that Harper was more talked about than a guy like trout is borderline ridiculous when you factor in the year trout was having.

Of course he could.

But not too many 5 WAR 19 year olds in this world

Are you all serious. Bryce Harper didnt deserve anything lol. His name won him ROY. Wade Miley was hands above way more deserving and I don't even like wade Miley.

The only Al surprise in this is Yoenis Cespedes wasn't 2nd or 3rd on all of the ballots. Only Trout (duh) and Darvish was on every ballot. Unless i read that wrong in the article i saw.

Think Cespedes finished 2nd

sportscrazy34
11-12-2012, 10:04 PM
He did finish second but didn't receive votes from all of the writers. Darvish did while finishing 3rd. I'm not surprised by that as much as i am by there being writers that didn't have Cespedes in there top 3. Wouldn't mind seeing who left him off.

Harper didnt deserve it until recently. He came on strong there at the end.

i don't think Harper was deserving of it. obviously as a Reds fan, I wanted Frazier to win, but I thought that Miley was going to win it.

anyway... http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/3480_300486686718868_199624696_n.jpg

No, it was close, but Harper was better. Personally, I think Miley would've won it if he didn't have a bad September. But because he pitched poorly in the last month and Harper surged, Harper overtook his spot.

Ya I agree. On September 1st I would've voted for Wade Miley. But because of the month's both Miley and Harper had I think that's why Harper won.

when it comes to something like ROY I think you should look at the entire season of statistics, and not just player did this or that in month whatever.

"Bryce Harper" was a hyped up name. IMO that got him votes from human votes.
no doubt Harper had impressive numbers, even only getting them in 139 games. but I think he got an edge in voting because he is "Bryce Harper".

I'm not saying Miley was robbed. I think they were both deserving, but IMO Miley deserved it a little more.
16 wins. 3.33 ERA. 1.18 WHIP. those are ace type numbers.

Rush
11-13-2012, 12:44 AM
Because one surged and one struggled in the last month, one was able to pass up the other. It was a close race and sometimes when there are close races little things like that swing the vote. They both had very good year long stats.

When comparing pitchers wins should be thrown out. They don't show much of anything. Phil Hughes had 18 wins. Doesn't make him a good pitcher.

SpecialFNK
11-13-2012, 12:50 AM
I agree to a point, wins are very overrated. but you can't just ignore them all together. 3.33 ERA/1.18 WHIP are still impressive.

one thing someone could use to discredit (or whatever) Miley is K/9 because Miley only had 6.66 K/9. but I don't think he should be devalued because he doesn't get a lot of K's.

^ within this topic. this is the first time I looked up Miley on fangraphs to find out his K/9. that's 6.66 K/9, I'm not making that up. 666. devil number.

Jeffy25

Harper deserved the ROY over Miley, on September 1st, certainly Miley or Frazier, but Harper turned it on.

Harper produced a 5 WAR, his season created more value than Miley's in several ways, and he was better comparative to his peers than Miley was.

He deserved the award. It wasn't just his name.

smh @ people saying Harper shouldnt have won and it wasnt close...

It was close in the voting,

Harper 112 Pts - 70% - 16 1st place votes
Miley 105 Pts - 66% - 12 1st place votes

But Haper did produce a 5 WAR to Miley's 3.4

It was very close tho. Miley had a solid year, but he lost it in September.

Kinda weird to think about as they are both rookies, but Miley is like 6 years older

i find it ridiculous that anyone would say that Harper was more talked about than trout, Mike Trout is the only thing i heard about all year.
Harper was the more hyped prospect, and it's fair to see why especially coming into the draft.

he also did it with less time than most other players especially considering he came up after trout did.
