Knuckleball no question, if you can locate it well enough it's unhittable. Power pitches are so hard on the arm and major league hitters can time even Chapmans 104 mph fastball and all the hitter really has to do is get wood on it and it leaves the park. With a good knuckleball it's nearly impossible to get enough bat on the ball for a solid hit. Not to mention career longevity. A knuckleballer can pitch well into his 40's where as a power pitcher now a days is done by 30, or has to actually learn how to "Pitch" once due to age, he loses velocity.

Fastball with speed, movement and the ability to locate. It is the key to setting up an array of every other pitch. A great fastball can make a mediocre curve, slider, change, etc. appear to be much better.

If you can place your fastball wherever you want, whenever you want, you will be in the league a very very long time.

Knuckleballers are pretty rare and I'm sure you'd have a better chance of being noticed. On top of that if you "mastered it", I'd definitively chose it. Be a Phil Neikro knuckleballer. :D

I used to think I was really good at baseball. Turns out that does not mean you need no outside coaching.

Weirdly enough I blew my arm out *after* I got into Tom House's stuff, though I do not believe there's any correlation. Just think it's funny...

I think its a no brainer here. Somebody has already done it. MO. He has played 99% of his career with one pitch and if i'm not mistaken he's done ok with it. If i can throw that pitch the way he does i'd be fine with that. I wouldnt even try to learn other pitches.

Knuckleball because if you can master it at a younger age you can have the longest career with it.

Next would be a screwball just because you hardly see them anymore.

The reason you don't see screwballs is because they are death on the elbow and wrist. If you throw a cutter and a 2 seam you have more on the ball then just a screwball.

Well i was more commenting on the rarity of the pitch nowadays but yeah i understand certain pitches exact more pressure on a pitcher's arm.

A changeup is useless unless you have something to compliment it.

Just because it is 60 mph doesn't make it good. If it can't work, how did Jamie Moyer do it? Figuring most professional pitchers can throw a half-decent fastball. Your argument that you need to complement it with something to make it good goes for pretty much any pitch from any pitcher in the league.

People say Mariano, but he doesn't only throw a cutter. Can't think of a guy who did it with "only" one pitch. Still need to have something half decent to show something else to a hitter, even if it is only used sparingly..

Edited this as I started looking it up, had Dickey in there as someone who only uses one pitch, then realized he does use a fastball occasionally, and with decent velocity for a knuckler. Even a guy with a fastball like Chapman can't get away with throwing it all the time. I still go with a change, just because if it is that good, makes the fastball that much better, and totally destroys timing. Hitters typically try to hit the fastball, and adjust to everything else.

Lincecum's splitter/change whatever you call it. That thing is the nastiest pitch I've ever seen. I'ev sat behind home plate and seen the way that thing looks from the batter's view... all you see is arms and legs and body parts flailing at you, then out comes this pitch that looks like a fastball and falls right off the table.

People swing and miss at that pitch more than any other I've ever seen.

But generally the fastball is the best pitch in the game if you ask any pitcher.
