I don't see a problem there. Kobe is the team, Nash loves him, and you don't need great defensive sets with Dwight and Gasol around.

Kobe's worked with him 2x in the Olympics so he knows the offense well. And Kobe is one of those players that NEVER needs to be motivated because he's ultra competitive.

Kobe is harder on his team mates than the coaches are alot of the time.

Don't see any chemistry issues though their perimeter defense might suffer... but it wasn't exactly great to start with since they're not exactly super speedy at their age.

I hope so. They need to pick someone Kobe isn't going to clash with and will respect. The only coach that that's pretty much a guarantee with is Phil - who, if they can get him, they will beyond a doubt do so. Everyone else has question marks. Sloan has clashed with big egos and personalities in the past, but I would think he'd command respect. D'Antoni may already have the respect factor going for him if Kobe, who I think is the biggest personality issue on the team, likes him so much that he'd choose his number based on him. Plus D'Antoni has obviously had success and a great relationship with Nash, Dwight is more than athletic enough to run and may help solve D'Antoni's total lack of defense, and Pau gives them the shooting touch and scoring ability in a PF that should do well enough with that system. My only concern would be wearing the older players out by playoffs, but they've got some athletic bench players who'd probably play well with the freedom of his offense to ease the load.

I wanna see what D'Antoni could do with this team full of all stars. D'Antoni's offense is innovative, too bad he lacks leadership qualities and defense is not part of his rep.

I actually dont think D'antoni would be a bad option for the Lakers :hide:

The Lakers offence would be unstoppable. Nobody knows how to get Nash involved like D'antoni does.

Defence will obviously never be the strength of a team coached by Mike D'antoni but at the same time I cant see a team with Dwight Howard being bad defensively.

It would be a good signing if so. Kobe is good friends with Diantoni, he was the reason Kobe wore number 8 before. He will know how to utilize the offense especially with Nash and Howard. If it does happen expect a lot of wins for the lakers. And I hate the lakers.

This.

No team is going to have a below average Defense with Dwight in the paint. It's that simple.

And if they want a stronger defense, there's nothing stopping them from hiring a defensive co-ordinator ala Mike Woodson.

I will say this, the idea of a D'Antoni offense powered by Kobe, Dwight and Nash is scary as hell.

How do you stop Dwight, Gasol and MWP in the PnR when they roll to the basket? I'm not sure there's a team that can.

horrible for kobe and pau... his system sucks for low post players

Lakers fans better pray they don't get D'Antoni. I could see him being a decent fit with Nash running the show, but man is it frustrating as you watch your team not give a damn about defense night in and night out. Maybe with a great defensive player like Dwight it would be different, but I doubt it.

Chuck Person will coach the defense, along with Dwight and Metta. Defense will be fine once Dwight gets healthy.

I don't think Mike will be a great fit because we can't run with two 7 footers out there.

Exactly, the problem with D'antoni is he doesn't even like to use a defensive line up.He likes a small line up.He used Amar'e as his center on the Suns, then David Lee and later Amar'e with the Knicks. When Chandler was forced on him, the Knicks actually had good defense. He wouldn't have any choice but to start Dwight.

thephoenixson28
11-09-2012, 06:31 PM
Man Diantoni would make this team 100x better. He would utilize everyone on the offensive side. Pick and pop with Gasol, Pick and Roll with Dwight. Open shots for Kobe. People don't understand how good of a offensive coach he is. The defensive side will sort its way out with Dwight and Kobe being top defenders. Diantoni never had the defensive anchor like Dwight. And who cares about the bench, they suck anyways. I'm a suns fan and I speak with experience. Diantoni will help the lakers win the championship. Not Phil,Not Sloan, not shaw. Diantoni fits too perfect if you ask me.

Incorrect, Jodie Meeks is a stud, and Jamison has been known to hit the 3, and Duhon and Blake in the right system, tempo and spacing, especially in transition can knock down the 3 with good regularity as well. The only thing Duhon was good at last yr was his 3 pt shooting percentage.

Here's an assignment for you.

1. Go to www.basketball-reference.com and look at career 3 FG% on everyone surrounding Nash in Phoenix during their 60 win seasons.
2. Look up those %s for the 1s, 2s, and 3s on the current Lakers.

You'll find that all of their career percentages are about the same. From the 8 or so I looked at, Raja Bell is the only guy over 40%. Steve Blake is just a bit under that.
