Major League Baseball on Thursday handed out the Silver Slugger Awards to the top offensive players in the American League and National League.

Winners of the award were determined by voting conducted among Major League managers and coaches, who were asked to name the players at each position in each league who put up the best seasons at the plate. Voters were not allowed to pick players from their own clubs.

The winners, announced live on MLB Network, were:

American League
Catcher: A.J. Pierzynski
First base: Prince Fielder
Second base: Robinson Cano
Third base: Miguel Cabrera
Shortstop: Derek Jeter
Outfield: Mike Trout
Outfield: Josh Willingham
Outfield: Josh Hamilton
Designated hitter: Billy Butler

National League
Catcher: Buster Posey
First base: Adam LaRoche
Second base: Aaron Hill
Third base: Chase Headley
Shortstop: Ian Desmond
Outfield: Andrew McCutchen
Outfield: Jay Bruce
Outfield: Ryan Braun
Pitcher: Stephen Strasburg

Some questionable calls here, but here it is.

Encarnacion should have got it for DH. I know he had 50 games less than Butler at DH, but cmon.

Jay Bruce is also a very questionable choice. Should have been Holliday.

Juan Encarnacion never gets any love. An eye for an eye - that's what I always say.

Whoops, I meant Edwin.

I was going to complain about Wright not getting it, but him and Headley basically had the same season. Kinda surprised.

Desmond, Headley, and Hill were all right.

LaRoche is debatable depending if you don't think Votto or Craig deserve it since they played less time.

It was right, so I don't know what your point is

I'm talking about the ones that happen before the season by "experts" - and that people actually put a lot of stock into.
Show me one of those guys that showed they'd have these type of years.

Anyways...
Our boy Edwin Encarnacion should've gotten it at DH.

Well Desmond was a finalist for breakout player, and Headley has never shown the offensive ability he had this year and Hill was a finalists for comeback player of the year

Votto getting hurt gave it at first to LaRoche, not LaRoche hitting well.

Yeah, they weren't predicitive, baseball isn't that predicitive all the times, especially when it comes to injuries. All of these guys had the potential to do this, and it isn't out of nowhere that they did.

Why would anyone project historically mediocre and/or inconsistent players to produce batting numbers that are well above their typical levels?
