Okur said he was retiring because injuries have kept him from contributing at a high level.

"A player of certain level should say goodbye to the sport he loves when his body doesn't let him to be as he used to be," Okur said Wednesday, his comments carried by the Anadolu Agency in Turkey.

This guy was such a mismatch for all the centers in the league cuz of his long range shooting. I can see him coming back as a backup PF/C in the future tho

Solid player, even a pretty good rebounder for somebody that often played away from the basket. Wouldn't be surprised if he continues to play in Europe

It's a shame injuries slowed him down. He was a unique talent in the league.

Like many, used to really enjoy watching him play. Was one of the better shooting big men in the league.

He was a very very good player and an all star but i hate him. Because he was never a part of our national team, and his reasoning was this "The program our national team's fitness/conditioning coach gives me is very different from Utah Jazz's, it takes me long to adapt to the season in the NBA"

:sigh: I'm going to miss Mehmet. One of those players I used to love watching when I was little because it was so rare to see a big shoot from distance.
