I know it's only 3 games into his career. However, he has been impressive in all of his games thus far. Who would you compare him to and where would you rank him 5 years from now?

Why not, he will be as good a CP3 eventually. He's a great shooter and he's a great passer, everyone is just underrating him because he plays for a small market.

really liked him. reminds me as a mix between cp3 and isiah. really good player, always under control. knows his limits, minimizes his mistakes...plays like a veteran.

kobe also had some very nice words about the rookie. i see some kyrie in him as well, although that doesnt mean much right now.

in 3 years, i could easily see him, kyrie cracking top 5 pgs.

When he was drafted i thought he could average 25 and 6 then i was like whoa! Thats a little high so i think his final rookie numbers will be 18 7 4, which would possibly win ROY. I think he has very high potential to be a super guard with superb passing ability

IMO Lilliard will be the best player out of his draft class and ROY. The Blazers will have 13 million plus in capspace so he will have more talent around him which cant be a bad thing to help his game along. Time will tell but he is looking good so far.

The Rockets scored big in acquiring Harden, Ibaka is a good defender but signing him over Harden will come back to haunt them. Nice move by the Rockets stepping in so early with what appeared to be a decent package for an impact player.

Thats great and all but its not a valid conclusion to say he has a better basketball IQ than Kyrie Irving after 3 games. And Im not being a homer and defending Kyrie specifically, but doing this in general when comparing someone to an established player. You know who also had a monster week last year? Lester Hudson on the Cavs put up similar numbers for entire week towards the 3/4 mark of the season. Theres a reason people arent talking about him anymore though. Things change when theres actual NBA game tape available.

JasonJohnHorn
11-04-2012, 12:59 PM
It's a really small sample size so far, but the number are VERY impressive. He had a lot of turnovers the first game, his FG% was a little low, but the next two games he made improvements on both. After three games he's got a 3-1 assist-to-turnover ratio... that is awesome, and he's shooting 47% fromt he field and 37% from the arc and better than 90% from the charity stripe. For a rookie? That is unbelievable. Obviously if he can sustain this level of play he will likely make the All-Star team. But that said, we've seen young players come in the league and tear it up, only to hit 'the wall'. If this high level of play continues, teams will be watching tape of him and will focus on him on defense. We'll see as the season comes along what he's made out of. But yeah, he looks pretty fawking good so far. I had him picked for ROY when he was drafted just because I suspected he was going to be given a big role in Portland's offense since they really didn't have a PG to start with, but that said, I wasn't expecting numbers like this out of him. I expect there are some GMs right about now wishing they had taken a close look at him.

But again... this is the first week of the season.. he has 79 more games to go. It's a long season.

Damian Lillard is legit, hes a beast. I went to the home opener, it was crazy, ups and downs, then the last shot, the OT. I went to see Harden and Lin but know Lillard was on the blazers the potential ROTY so it was killing 3 birds with one stone. seeing all them play was great. oh and you kno LA did his thing, every time he scored i was like "yup thats what he does" lol

The problem with the fantastical statements like "He's gonna be a top 3 PG" is you're not looking at the actual position, you're making a hypothetical statement without considering how many good PGs there are in the league.

Chris Paul
Deron Williams
Rajon Rondo
Russell Westbrook
Ricky Rubio
John Wall
Kyrie Irving

So who out of those WILL he be better than? He might be better than all of them, but to say he will absolutely be better than them is kinda being hasty.

As a Blazer fan I love how he plays and carries himself, I just want to see him play and improve and eventually his ranking will sort itself out.

JasonJohnHorn
11-04-2012, 01:33 PM
makes me more mad that the nets traded that pick lol

Yeah... but you guys already have perhaps the second best PG in the game.
As a Nets fan, you have a lot of reasons to be excited, and the Nets needs a rebounder more than a PG and got one in Gerald Wallace.

JasonJohnHorn

I will say this, that his first three games are better than any three games John Wall has produced easily.

As for Irving... it is clear already that they are two very different players. I would not go off of a three game sample size, but if Lillard continues to put up these kid of number, then I would have him ahead of Irving because of the higher assist average, and the assist-to-turnover ratio. they are both great scorers.

Rubio, last season, proved he could defend and pass, but he never scored the way Lillard has his first three games.

As for Westbrook... he's a score first PG, and I generally go with passing point guards, so, and again, this is a big if, IF Lillard put up these numbers all season and Westbrook put up numbers like he did last season, I'd take Lillard over Westbrook.

CP3 is the best PG in the league. I don't see that changing, and now that D-Will has all the tools he needs to work with, I expect him to put up the stats that would earn him the second best PG spot. Rondo is the best defender at his position and the best passer, so even though his shot isn't as good, I'd still put Rondo top three.

Obvioulsy we are working on a very small sample size with Lillard. Teams will adjust to him and watch tape on him and he will learn as he goes and improve. I've already seen improvement in him over three games in terms of FG% and turnovers.

Nobody knows if this kid is going to keep it up, and putthing him in the top three in the league at his position would be crazy at this point, BUT, if his numbers keep up, he is in the conversation.

Now...the real question is, is Lillard a HOFer? ;-) lol

Don't like his size all too much if he ends up playing the 2 (because of his scoring) but if he can become a solid play maker and share the ball on an efficient enough level to where he is a legitimate double and triple threat? I think this dude is easily top 5

I don't understand why people call Portland lottery bound.

Their best player (Aldridge) in his prime, two solid wings (WesMat, Batum) and an amazing guard prospect that is posting elite numbers already (not to mention consistently)

I can easily see this squad become playoff bound. They have great pieces.

6 points from the bench last night is only thing that can keep us out of the playoffs. We have a amazing starting 5 but our bench is possibly worst in league. We have no 6th man type, we have no scoring from the bench, we do have solid defense but the offense completely dies.

They have Isiah Thomas as their starting point guard - he's first on the depth chart and averages more minutes. But with Aaron Brooks, who isn't the best point guard but is a nice scoring spark off the bench, they have a good rotation at that position. That said, Damian Lillard would have been the better pick - he and DeMarcus Cousins would have made something special. Luckily my team got him.

PG is a deep position. He'll be the Brandon Roy of PG's. For the SG spot that's easily top 5. For the PG spot it's debatable where he will be, top 10 most definitely.

He's an older rookie as well, so he's more physically and mentally mature than most. Same with Roy when he came into the league. How big is his upside, probably not much but he'll hit his prime and level off faster than most young incoming PG's.

he is the next in the long line of super athletic do it all scoring pg's. cp3, deron williams, derrick rose, westbrook, lawson, holiday, wall, irving, the list goes on and on. the league today is stacked at the pg position. player's like aaron brooks, andre miller, and jose calderon are coming off the bench for christs sake. it seems like every team has at least 1 good pg. lillard will be toward the top, but not at the top of this list.
