It's now a 'front court' option.

Last year, in order, voting went Lebron, Melo, Amare, Garnett and Bosh in East.

Wade
Rose (although injured)
LeBron
Melo
Amare (with outside chance of Bynum, Garnett or Bosh)

West Howard will still get voted in regardless, so this process won't change much.

Paul
Kobe
Durant
Griffin
Howard

I only say Amare not because I'm a Knicks fan but he's still immensely popular while Garnett is on the decline and Bosh isn't on the same level of popularity. Amare was voted in 2 years ago as a Knick and missed last year because Melos his teammate now.

Even with injuries I still see Rosé and Amare getting in.

Amare will not be a starter on the All Star team because of his injury to start the season. It will likely be Bynum, Garnett or Bosh in that spot.

Amare sucks too hard to be an all star starter.

That 3rd forward selection in the East will be interesting, based off popularity alone I think Lebron and melo will have the other 2 slots locked down. I think it should probably go to Bosh, but who knows. It's a voting based system for the starters and wouldn't be surprised if someone who plays in a bigger market than Miami gets it.

In the West it'll be interesting to see if Lin gets voted into the starting 5. At least in Yao's case, you could make an argument for him to start over anyone outside of Shaq, but there's way too many PG's in the West that are more deserving than Lin (Wetsbrook, CP3, Parker.)

This looks about right. I might switch Garnett for Bosh. The bolded is too funny, but too true.

Before Melo Amar'e was playing out of his mind what happened??

I was never high on them getting Melo, I thought they should have kept Chandler and got some better #2 and #3 options. Build Mavericks/Pistons style. Have a better overall team not just 2 stars.

Pretty sure China loves Kobe.

Here is how many votes Yao and Kobe got for the All-Star Game after Yao entered the league:

2003
Yao - 1,286,324
Bryant - 1,474,386

2004
Yao - 1,484,531
Bryant - 1,759,717

Now, here's those two plus McGrady after he was traded to the Rockets:

2005
McGrady - 1,993,687
Bryant - 1,815,952
Yao - 2,558, 578

2006
McGrady - 1,818,932
Bryant - 2,271,631
Yao - 2,342,738

2007
McGrady - 1,942,746
Bryant - 2,138,777
Yao - 2,451,718

After this, McGrady's career began to die down, as did Yao's. Bryant started taking those votes away, although Yao's votes were strong in 2009.

A few things here. McGrady's arrival instantly gave him a huge increase in votes because of Yao. Things leveled off and Bryant beat him by a bit every year. BUT, Harden is the face of the franchise. Yao was, not McGrady. And Harden is more marketable.

As for Lin vs. Paul, I fully expect Lin to get a ton of votes like Yao did, but Lin is also a huge star in the states.

Kobe - With Harden close

The east is hard to call... what with injuries and such.

LBJ, Bosh and Melo are my picks (and I'm not saying they are the deserving players or not, just that is what I expect the voting to finish up at).

Wade I expect to get in the back court, as for the other guard, I frankly don't know at this point who the fans are going to be voting for with Rose injured. I guess D-Will should be near the top of the list though.

As for the west, I think it's a little easier. Fans love Durnat, Howard and Girffen. I see them finishing up as the top three front-court vote getters.

The back court, assuming Harden doesn't keep up his current average... lol... should be Kobe and CP3, but, depending on the "Asian" vote, it could easily end up being Lin and Harden. We all know Yao benefited from the "Asian" vote when he was playing and started ahead of Shaq despite Shaq being an EXTREMELY popular player AND actually putting up better numbers, and we all know that those votes helped out his teammates (T-Mac almost made the all-star team without playing a game that one season). Harden and Lin may win a popularity contest with CP3 and Kobe this season.

Did you just say two hawks will make it?

Yes indeed. It's mostly because the Celtics are getting really old, and they're a deep team. I think Garnett's and Pierce's impact will lessen as a result, although they'll still easily be the second and third best players on their team. Horford might not come back strong enough in time to make the team, but it's about damn time that Smith gets his all-star status.
