@MySportsLegion
Dwayne Wade is going to donate tonight's paycheck (roughly $200,000) to those in need from Hurricane Sandy.

Very classy on Wade's part.

I'd have to agree with you. I was hoping that he would do something to help after stating the game shouldn't be played because more important things were going on. Personally, I think people deserve to have the distraction for a couple hours.

Looks like a PR move, sadly:

"3 hour traffic just to get into the NY city.. C’monMan…” Wade tweeted on Thursday night.

Wade clarified his comments later on after deleting that original tweet.

“2 be clear “Traffic tweet was meant 2 say”… We shouldn’t B hre 2 play a basketball game when theirs so many families obviously still R affected by #Sandy,” Wade wrote.

Where did I say anywhere that it should be a requirement? I just think that people who are making in the millions of dollars per year should at least donate.

You know why I'm not donating? Because I can barely put gas into my tank right now. I feel for the people who are affected and I would donate if I COULD.

But how many professional athletes won't even think twice about giving any sort of donations? TOO MANY.

Hey, he said he wanted to turn Knicks fans into Nets fans, right? This would be the way to do it.

This was his quote from the other day:

"In order to truly turn Knicks fans to Nets fans it is absolutely essential that i do nothing. The best strategy we have in place to accomplish this goal of converting Knicks fans is to let James Dolan do what he does best. If there is one thing that the little man Dolan is better than me at, it is turning Knicks fans into Nets fans. I must do nothing."

Donated Funds

Does anyone have a clue where these funds can be received by the people in the hurricane zone?

I currently live in Lindenhurst Longisland and we lost out home because of the flooding. My situation is a positive one as hopefully insurance will pay for a rebuild, and my family will be able to move into my grandmothers home for the duration of the reconstruction.

Many of my friends however are not as fortunate, having their houses knocked down due to fires during the flood, or boats crashing into their homes. My own house had three feet of water in the entire first floor and we lost everything. We are having clothing drives in town, and I know the local colleges are doing food drives. The situation is horrible, it honestly is depressing, and I have been extremely lucky, but would love to locate these donated funds and try to help people out.

Please if anyone has heard how to access donated funds, direct message myself and I can respond with an email/ CC local officials to help disburse funds.

Thankyou

Yeah there's a lot of factors that play in. It seems like D. Wade really cares about how he's perceived. So it makes sense for him to make this play. It would really resonate if he donated half a years salary then I'd take this seriously. But to me this just says look at me I'm more important than hurricane Sandy and it's impact.

it is definitely classey when someone donates, but to be honest, that amoun of cash represens only 1% of a donation of the money he makes per year. 200,000/17,000,000 =0.01 X 100% = 1.2% of his money earned for the year is what he donated. Now think of a family with 30,000 net income. If they donated 1.2% of their money, it would be 360 bucks. Classy family right? Very good role model for others. Its not that much of a big deal. That isnt to say dwade's donation shouldnt be commendable, It just should not be taken as such a big deal.

Never understood the hate Wade gets from some people. He seems like a relatively nice guy and good father having to deal with his crazy ex. Very classy move regardless of the sum of money. I'm sure that some of these players would like to do more and physically volunteer to help, but with their schedules flying across the country its gotta be difficult to do that.

Why are people questioning the motives behind this? Even if it was a PR stunt, the intention was still to help people in need so its all good in my book.

He just made a comment without thinking first
(he would have realized it was insensitive if he did) but its ridiculous to be angry with him about it.

Wade has always been a good/classy person and this just adds to my respect for him.

200,000 is a huge amount of money.
Thank you Wade!

3 hour traffic just to get into the NY city.. C'monMan...
Then, not wanting to sound as though he was just complaining about traffic, Wade took down that tweet and said, 2 be clear "Traffic tweet was meant 2 say"... We shouldn't B hre 2 play a basketball game when theirs so many families obviously still R affected by #Sandy.

some people think he wasnt quite aware of the whole situation in nyc.
