The Denver Nuggets have reached agreement with point guard Ty Lawson on a four-year, $48 million contract extension, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Lawson, who turns 25 on Saturday, agreed to the extension one day before the NBA's deadline. He would have become a restricted free agent at the end of the season if he and the Nuggets hadn't come to terms.

Lawson averaged career highs of 16.4 points and 6.6 assists in 61 games for the Nuggets last season. He was the 18th overall pick in the 2009 NBA draft.

Lawson is better than Jrue Holiday and Holiday is looking for as much as he can get (some even say max) I honestly hope we can sign Holiday for cheaper than this. Solid deal for the future for the Nuggs.

if its last years post season ty than hes worth every penny, if he acts like he has this preseason not even close, when hes aggressive he is a beast but he just isnt consistent yet

Honestly if Lawson continues to improve as is expected this may turn out to be one of the best contracts in the entire NBA.

I heard Jrue was looking for $13.6m! Which is insane.

I think $12m is a bit much for Lawson, I mean thats almost 50% more than Dragic got, and about double what Lowry got. Even more than what Rondo makes. Also consider his stats may be a bit inflated playing in such a run and gun system, there is a bit of the "D'antoni effect" there in DEN.

But overall its not too bad, and he could outgrow the contract if he keeps improving.

It seems that way. I don't know a lot about Toronto's situation, but Uriji has been a Godsend.

i know... the new CBA isn't helping, now even mediocre players want max deals.

Holiday is a nice, maybe above average PG.

he wants a max, go out there and prove you deserve it! instead these guys want max deals just in the hope and prayer that they maybe, might be worth it in a few years.

on the fence on what I think of this deal.

I loved him coming into the NBA, that the Nuggets drafted/traded for him showed me how deeply ingrained statistical analysis was in Denver and how lacking it is in Minny. He was a true champion for the statistical cause, all that said Im less enamored with his potential for improvement.

As a Sixers fan I love it. Now Jrue's agent can see the harsh reality of the market for PGs. Lawson is top 10 definitely better than Jrue and he got 4 / 48. I'm praying for 4 / 40 for Jrue.

Appreciate it Ty!
