The Boston Red Sox today named Torey Lovullo as the bench coach on the club’s Major League coaching staff.

Executive Vice President/General Manager Ben Cherington and Manager John Farrell made the announcement.

Lovullo served as first base coach on Farrell’s staff in Toronto for the 2011-12 seasons.* He returns for his second stint in the Red Sox organization after managing Boston’s Triple-A Pawtucket affiliate in 2010.* While at the helm of the PawSox, he saw 21 of his players contribute to the big league club. **

While I think Bogar did a good job, can't blame Farrell for wanting a fresh start with his guy. Thoughts on Lovullo?

He has some experience, has had a few interview opportunities for the manager position, looks like somebody Farrell feels comfortable with. I am more interested in seeing who they hire as a pitching coach.

I like Lovullo, but I'm more concerned with the pitching/hitting coaches.

I wonder if BV's broiling of Bogar is going to hurt him long term?

I think the pitching coach will be: Rick Peterson

I was hoping more or less for Ricky Vaughn.

Bogar could be back in another role such as first base or third base coach. However, it seems he will likely go elsewhere to get a more prominent position. I like Bogar on the staff, but it does make sense to start all over.

"Baltimore Orioles director of pitching development Rick Peterson is apparently not being considered as the pitching coach. The Red Sox have not sought permission to speak to Peterson, according to Comcast Sports of Baltimore.

“Ideally, I’m in the dugout,” said Peterson. “Since 1998, I’ve been in the dugout. If an opportunity did exist, I would explore it.”

Blue Jays pitching coach Bruce Walton and bullpen coach Pete Walker are candidates to join the Red Sox"

Wow. I wonder who's being considered. They have to make the right decision on this one.

I bet they're just going to promote Sauveur. If not, it's probably someone we never heard of before.

what would people think about hiring Dale Sveum as the hitting coach? Doesn't look like he'll have a head coaching job, having him as the hitting coach could be cool. Jason Vairtek in at 3B coach too :p

Depends how secure Farrell is. Managers are not known for staffing heavily with guys that want to and are seen as Managers - unless they go way back.
