View Full Version : 4 point shot?

My dad really isn't into basketball that much but whenever we flip on a game he constantly says how he thinks there should be a 4 point shot which would be at half court or further

I always tell him he's crazy but anyway should an extra point be awarded for a deeper shot?

No there shouldn't...

Uhh nah. It's cool when someone rings in a buzzer beater for that 3 but if you made say half court a 4 point shot you would have morons trying to jack it up near the end of the shot clock. Imagine that player on your team who at times chucks garbage or takes a deep 3 early in the possesion. Think about how mad it makes you and than imagine a shot like that coming from half.

That's what the 4 point play is for when you get fouled at the 3 point line and you make that shot.

Given the 8 second rule it'd be very very rare (although not impossible) to have a shot from behind the half come at the end of the shot clock, wouldn't it? End of a quarter is more likely.

But that's neither here nor there - I agree with the general sentiment that it would be dumb. Probably more exciting for people who don't really like basketball and just want entertainment, but I don't care much about that.

The rule should be that a half-court shot or further should count as 4 points if the team is down by 3 or 4 points, with less than 5 seconds left on the clock.

Lets say if a team is down 102 to 106 and a player makes a full court shot with like 2 seconds left, it should be worth 4 points.

I think any shot made from behind half-court should eliminate whatever deficit your teams has and even up the game. Just to make it interesting. If you are already in the lead, then you just get 3 points for it.

The shot wouldn't even count because it would be back court. Derp.

No way.

What we really need to do is get rid of out of bounds, and make it 12 on 12.

Thats excitement.

:D this is neat, most basketball games come down to last 2 minutes of the 4th quarter anyways ahaha

You guys don't realize how many MBA players can make half court shots consistently with no defense on them.

JR Smith would be the king of taking a 4 point shot less than 5 seconds into the shot clock.

Jamal Crawford owns the most 4 point plays in NBA history. I'm sure he'd welcome the addition although he apparently doesn't need it. Lol

My buddy always said that the NBA should make a half court shooting specialist so they spot him up at half to stretch the floor lol

How bout every 5 feet back from three its an extra point so you'd have 14 different places to shoot form behind three so a full court shot from 89-94ft would be worth 17 points. Seems like a good plan right..

yes, and behind half court is perfect. this wouldn't be as common as everybody on here thinks, considering if you pass half court it's a TO.

what this would do is make more players fire up that half court shot before time expires instead of holding it because they don't want a FGA.

Why does your dad think that? What is his reasoning?

10-24-2012, 01:38 AM
No thanks, Kobe's FG% already gets affected by 3PFG, don't want 4PFG dropping it to under 40%.

Andrew32
10-24-2012, 01:42 AM
Yes I support this.

If you are beyond the half court line shot = 4pts.
If you get fouled and make it = 5pt play.

I see this one used a lot but didn't people say the same thing to the introduction of three point shots?

With that said, I don't like the idea of 4 point shots unless it's almost full court. It's almost impossible to get enough space to make a line for a 4 point shot while still being in the half court.
