Amare Stoudemire will be out two to three weeks with a ruptured popliteal cyst in his left knee, the New York Knicks announced after Sunday afternoon's practice at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse.

Stoudemire returned to New York City Sunday morning to get a reevaluation of his knee, where he suffered a bone bruise on Oct. 10 during practice. An MRI then revealed the latest injury.

The left knee is the same one he had microfracture surgery on in Oct. 2005, when he was a member of the Phoenix Suns. While he missed basically the entire 2005-06 campaign, he came back stronger as ever in the following seasons.

Stoudemire has indeed been no stranger to injuries. He's had chronic knee problems, a partially detached retina in his right eye and lower back issues, which started in the 2011 NBA playoffs and continued toward the end of last season.

Stoudemire was said to be in top shape coming into the season, hardly missing a routine of two-a-days during the summer. Also, Mike Woodson has raved about Stoudemire's conditioning level in training camp.

Now, once again, the Knicks will be without their starting power forward during a key stretch -- this time starting on Nov. 1 to tip off the season, which includes matchups against the Brooklyn Nets, Miami Heat and Philadelphia 76ers (twice).

The Knicks first face the Sixers on Monday night at the Carrier Dome, where Carmelo Anthony led the Orange to the 2003 NCAA championship.

his production won't be missed. The only downfall is that the chemistry of the starters is going to suffer.

Copeland > Stoudemire... jk... maybe. No jk.

This is a minor setback. Knicks should be fine

No biggie here. The Knicks should be okay to start the year without him, except for Nov. 2nd of course. ;)

I'm not really concerned, it almost ensures that Copeland gets a spot on the team and Stat better hopes that he doesn't do too well in his place.
Let Amare sit for as long as he needs, the Knicks play better with Melo at the 4 anyhow. Brewer should be back in time to fill in at the 3.

Thats the funny thing about sports.

I think stuff like this might happen through out the YEAR to Stat... smh, if it's not one thing it's another.

I wonder what Melo thinks now, he came to join forces with Amare who was having a great season. And now Amare isnt even close to what he was 2 years ago.

i doubt it,and many bulls fans wouldnt either

but its those knees again that made the signing such a big risk

He's going to miss 5 games at the most with this injury. He looked pretty good playing with it in his first (only) preseason game. It's frustrating but it's not the end of the world. Hopefully Woodson eases him back into action off of the bench and he realizes that is his best role.

It's kind of sad that we picked up Billups' option only to amnesty him.

That amnesty clause and Amare would make a good pairing.

Just put amare on the bench already. No more excuses of having time to "gel". It's ridiculous.

Only 2-3 weeks, Chemstry wise it's a killer, he looked good in his first preseason game, had some explosiveness back. :sigh: for two weeks we should be fine.

Amare's contract isn't insured, unlike virtually every other contract in the NBA

Maybe MJ would do a Tyrus Thomas, Diop and Carroll swap for Amar'e and admit he's crazy.
He's our only hope of trading away Amar'e.

Just looking at the current teams with the lowest payroll the only possible scenarios are Charlotte and the Kings if they went crazy and traded Salmons,Garcia and Outlaw.

NY is pretty much stuck with Amar'e either way.
At least he expires when the majority of our roster does.

It's not like he injured himself dunking during pre game lay ups or punching an inanimate object. From all accounts he put in a lot of hard work this summer and I wish him a speedy recovery!

It's funny when a player has a reputation for being hurt it sometimes over shadows reality. Amare over the last 6 years has missed 55 games, Melo has missed 71 games. I doubt anyone would think that on here.
