Dwight Howard is one i would put up right now, amazing talent.

Interesting thing about the MVP, other than active players or players who are retired but haven't come up for the HoF vote, i can't think of any mvp who didn't make the hall of fame.

Hands down Jerry West IMO. Don't really think Mikan should be an option since there wasn't an MVP award until 56 the year Mikan retired.

Gasol >>> Webber.

Imo the player that comes to mind is D-Wade.
His level of play in 2006 and especially 2009 / 2010 was just mind boggling good.

In many, many other years he would have won MVP.
Just got unlucky.

But he may not have been his own team's best player any given year, and while he put up ridiculous assist and steal numbers, it was his longevity that has him in the record books. Trust me, I think he is a top 2-4 PG ever, and I would have zip qualms about him winning one. But the fact is, anyone who played in the Jordan era simply had a better player in the league every year.

Lots of people were lobbying for Kidd to win the MVP in the early 00's when he was taking those relatively weak NJN teams to the Finals.

Doubt he ever deserved it over guys like Shaq/Duncan though...
Maybe in 2002 but even then that is a pretty big stretch.

Man, I'm jealous. I wish I was around during those days... It was the same way for me, but with GP and Kemp. I was absolutely obsessed with Gary Payton as a 5-8 year old, give or take. I've always been a diehard fan of all my Seattle teams, but nothing compared to the Sonics back in the day.

Payton, Kemp, Hersey Hawkins, Detlef Shrimpf, Vin Baker... And then Mr. Sonic himself. Still can't believe we let him go after that awesome 2006 season we had (I think it was 2006). I remember those days so vividly. Growing up sucks, haha.

Payton was a player I literally modeled myself after, though I think I played much more like a Ron Harper pre-injury (I liked to score, period). But the glove was one of my absolute favorite to watch, and my Dad couldn't stand him haha.

I lived in Edmonds from 1983-86. I was born in 75. So you know have the frame of reference I am giving.

Ah, damn... So you were still a bit too young to really get the feeling of the Sonics' championship win. How'd you become a Minny fan then?

And I think the best part of GP was his superiority it talking ****, haha. Moved to Seattle from Minneapolis, and moved back to Minneapolis in 86', there when the Wolves were created, and left in 95'. Family still lives there.

No it wont. Duncan arguably deserved it a little more, but to say its a travesty is idiotic. Jkidd was the single reason of the Nets turnaround and downplaying it for whatever reason is unacceptable. It not like every other player could have done that.

No, it's not idiotic. The west, at that time, was so exponentially better than the east, there is no way you give credit to a scoring hindered Kidd in a weak *** east, while Duncan is carrying his team in a much better conference.

It would have been a complete joke had Kidd won the MVP.

You just love your exaggerations. So you're saying that kidd, a non scoring pg, shouldnt get credit. Maybe they should have gotten a great scoring pg like Marbury...oops! How'd that work out.

Kidd was never a scorer. He just makes his team play better. Take kidd out of that nj team and they would have been a 15 win team. Take duncan away and they may sTill take them as far duncan took them that year.

So pls dont just throw out superlatives. Give credit were its due.

Exaggerations? Nah. I am simply saying, there is no way Duncan shouldn't have been considered the more valuable player that season.

The east, at that time, was seriously a contest of who sucked the least to get in. The west meanwhile, was the opposite.

I would say Stockton should get a vote as well, but tbh I never remember him being a top 5 player in the league (or the best player on his own team,) while he was playing in any year. The league was stacked with superstars during his time in the league, and although he has some ridiculous career NBA records that probably will never get shattered, he never put together a full MVP year.
