2003 Tim Duncan. Won league and finals mvp (had the best record in the league) and was the only player on his team who made the allstar team including dethroning the 3x champ Lakers in the process.

2004 kg

ohh this is a good one

I think Duncan 2003, KG 2004, and LeBron 2012 all have a case.

If a mod would add a poll for those three that would be great

LeBron in 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 ---> The only 2 seasons in the last 10 years when the best player (statistically) was on a team with the best record.

If I had to pick one it would be 2009-2010.

2012 LeBron.

Whole season through Finals: '12 Lebron or '03 Duncan. Regular season only: '07 Nowitzki

This is actually a hard question.

2000 - 2012

1. Shaq (2000)
2. KG (2004)
3. Lebron (2010)
4. Dirk (2007)
5. Lebron (2009) / Duncan (2003)

I base this on regular season only.

2000-2012 is 12 years... the OP said 10 years

I think Lebron deserved his MVP award both times more so than KG in 04.

I think only Duncan's award can rival Lebron's

Shaq, Duncan, KG, LeBron (all 3 times).

I don't agree.

Great as Lebron was in 09 / 2010 I didn't think the separation between him and Wade/Kobe in 09 and him and Wade in 2010 was quite as large as the difference between KG and Shaq/Duncan in 2004.

KG was an absolute terror in the 2004 regular season.
He was a joy to watch that year.

This just goes to show that people actually don't read on this forum before they post.

I know it said the last 10 years but I purposely ignored that and did the past 12 years.

Not sure why it should/would bother anyone?

Does not bother me. It's just Shaq would be the OBVIOUS answer if we are going 12 years back.

Saying just the last decade makes it more interesting a discussion.

He was a joy to watch that year.Imho was the separation (statistically) between LeBron and Wade/Durant in 2010 just as large as the one between KG and Duncan/Shaq in 2004.

In 2010 Cavs won 61 games on their way to the best record while Heat finished 5th in the East with 47wins and OCT finished 8th in the West with 50wins.

In 2004 Minny won 58 games on their way to 2nd best record (1st in the West) while SAS won 57 games and LAL won 56 games.

KG in 2004 was great but I feel like LeBron in 2010 was just a little more deserving of an MVP they both deserved.

IMO, Shaq in 1999 - 2000 deserved MVP honors the most. Shaq in his prime was one of the most dominant forces the NBA has ever seen.

I'm going to go with Duncan in 03. I was initially going to say LBJ in any of the seasons where hw won it, but then I read through some posts (notably JordansBulls) and yeah, haivng been the only all-star on his team, and the best player in the league, and winning the championship (while de-throning the 3Xchampion Lakers) and getting the finals MVP while posting the best record.... I'd say Duncan in 03... there should be a poll on this things.

James was the best player each time he won it, but twice failed to win a championship in the same season, and when he did win he had two other all-stars on his team and beat a team who had never been to the finals before to win it all.

Put me down for Duncan in 03.

LeBron in 12 doesn't belong in this conversation imo. Because him and durant were very close. I was ok with either.

Lebron in 2010 on the other hand, with 04 KG, is my answer here.

LeBron deserves 3 MVPS with 2010 being the most deserved but he should have won it in 2011 and should not have won in 2009

This has no effect on winning the regular season MVP.

Then the answer should be Dirk 2007 since he led his team to the best record of all players while having the best stats.

There are other stars out there as well like Rose, LBJ, who led their team to the best record with great stats.

Well I said Dirk 2007 because the team won 67 games which is the most in the last 10 years.
