Exceed* expectations

Simple question. This doesn't necessarily mean live up to a max deal (Hibbert, Lopez) but at least improve more than we would have expected.

All players or is this a Lopez vs Hibbert thing?

JerseyPalahniuk

All players. Don't really care about Lopez vs Hibbert haha. Way too much Lopez talk on PSD...
I think it'll be Asik.

Batum.

I think Hibbert is a good franchise center, but relative to expectations and contract I have to go with Omer Asik. I haven't seen him play yet for the Rockets, but his boxscores certainly show a center who is multi-faceted. I did not expect the number of assists or rebounds he's gotten.

Definitely Asik. He does so many things well. Very hard nosed player that provides excellent defense.

as far as big men go though your almost going to have to overpay if you want to keep one or get one just because its not easy getting ahold of productive bigs.

I really hope its either Lin or Fields, but I have a feeling Asik will be the best deal.

I think Lin will surprise. He's got the same type of team in Houston he had in NY last year when he came out of nowhere

exceed? feilds.asik, lin, hibbert, green, lopez all have pretty high expectations put on them...and batum is a prime candidate for being a player who's good but never quite living up to expectations catagory

Funny, looking at that poll, Fields' contract doesn't look so bad.

Damn this is a tough one..
if they all got paid the same id go with brook lopez, but they dont, and brook lopez got paid the max as did hibbert.

Green hasnt taken that next step to stardom and will come out the bench, so 9 mil is a still a lil too much.

It looks like in terms of value for your buck it is between Lin and Asik.
ughhh...

not comfortable with this pick... but id say Asik.

You really do. I expect my Wolves to give Pekovic a 4 year, $45 million deal or something to that degree by Feb. You need to pay bigs that are good, period.

Asik is my answer regarding this thread.

I watched him twice this preseason, and while its only preseason, Lin looked like crap in both games I watched. I mean crap.

Lopez got more money than Hibbert. Im surprised.

I think all of these guys are overpaid, but Hibbert has highest chance of actually being WORTH his contract.

I think All Brook Lopez has to do is rebound better and play better defense to earn his contract. He's already talented on offense..

Then it's not really overpaying though. It's market rate.

Besides Omer Asik on the list, its amazing how close the polls are.

I have to go with Asik. He is going to get big minutes and never really had that chance in Chicago, so his productivity should go up exponentially.

If he can play 30 minutes he could be a legit DPOY candidate.

Yeah, just noticed that. Although this is partially my fault for the vagueness of the wording. "Exceeding expectations" could be interpreted as exceeding the value of he contract. I think only 1 or 2 players could possibly do that (hence the overpaid).

I say Green. At this juncture in camp, he looks great; entirely better than the guy they had for 26 games in 2010. Interesting to note, I recall him saying a couple months ago that as a result of his heart procedure, he now feels better than he has at any point in his life.

Asik's signed to a really good contract and he's been playing some really amazing basketball. The more playing time he gets the more I think he'll improve.

with lin, you may factor in the "linsanity" part if your viewing it from the owners perspective.

i think batum will. he really is looking good lately.

The worst contract is Hibbert, Fields, Green.

Asik for sure. A lot of people were dissing his contract but kinda had a feeling he'd prove them wrong.

Why do you assume these players were overpaid? I disagree half of these players were overpaid especially Batum, Asik, Hibbert, and Lin. And it's Omer Asik, not Omar.

Hibbert is especially overpaid. He's a guy getting the max for averaging 9 and 8 and like 39%. How can you shoot 39% when your shots are 2 feet from the rim??? And he's not coming off any injury or personal loss.

Yeah, blah blah centers must be overpaid, but he's seriously stinking it up after being named an all-star. He's also sucking majorly in fantasy on top of that.

I mean he is having a bad year, a terrible year really. I think Hibbert will be fine. He attributed to almost 16% of Indiana's wins last season by himself look at his WS%. I think Danny Granger being out has hurt him.

He had a .549 TS% last year and a eFG% of .497. Plus he's really young and yes 7-footers get paid, that's the nature of the beast. Also, it's still really early in the season.

I didn't say that. I made this thread before the season started. Almost all of these players were regarded as overpaid. I agree with your comments about those players. The point of this thread was to agree and disagree. Chill dude

I'm chill just wondering what constitutes overpaid. I don't take the opinions of posters here as the consensus. I would argue the consensus was most of these guys were NOT overpaid.

Lopez. Even though its a MAX deal, you don't expect him to average 20 and 10. Especially grabbing as many boards as he will this season. The Nets need him to add to that upper body strength and become a force inside

My opinion? $3-4 million per year above what your value is as a player is definitely overpaid. But yes, that's why there are quotes around the word overpaid in the question haha. I didn't know how to make a multiple option poll but I thought that Batum, Asik, and Lopez would live up to their contracts. Lopez so far is the only question.

I would agree with that but that's why I asked. Only a couple players on this list qualified even in the summer when they signed this deal.

Only a couple? Jeff Green makes $9 mil a year - atleast $3-4 million over his value. Landry Fields - no comment. Hibbert and Lopez at 16 million? 1
