Idea for everyone to think about - get rid of trade wait time/veto process and allow trades to take effect immediately. Trade veto is terrible and I don't think we ever use it - if people want to be stupid, let them be stupid. It happens all the time in real NBA, why not fake NBA?

I was thinking Wednesday. Not everyone will be on here over the weekend and to set it for Monday would be unfair. Though that is a pretty short turnaround between keeper selections and draft, it shouldn't make much of a difference.


Also - whatever the keeper deadline is, that will be the deadline for voting on rule changes. Whichever poll options are winning at that time, that rule will be enacted.

Have there ever been legit trades that were vetoed ? Otherwise it's just a safeguard against one or two teams messing the league up.

As far as the veto, this league isn't for idiots, so no one should be here that would ever make a trade to be funny or anything. But I understand people like having it there. It's kind of annoying waiting like 5 days for a trade to go through tho, so is it possible to shorten the waiting period?
Maybe once a trade is confirmed, 1 day later it goes through?
I kinda like the veto process, because it notifies you on your own team page of a pending trade (otherwise I think a lot of trades would go unnoticed, and thats not exciting), but the length of time was a bit annoying.

I like keeping the bench the same, or max adding one more. I think there's enough space there to take a few gambles, especially with a decent league size like 14.
I like how the waiver wire makes an impact on the season, and that effect would be limited with a deeper bench.

I don't recall MHC ever paying much attention around here (at least in this thread). Probably why he's finished near the bottom of the league

I think the keeper situation would have been a lot different if JJF were still around. He had 2 of the top 5 players and obviously throwing them both back into the draft has a huge domino effect on everyone else's decision making.

Bob - your keepers are still great. Don't think you could do much better in the first two rounds.

A couple of pages back it was discussed...some people were down with it and no one objected. I also mentioned it in the PM I sent out to all league managers and no one PMed me back with an objection. I am going to work under the assumption that everyone is OK with that.

13 teams will not stick. I invited S&W, Wizard, and CB29 in one round and only 2 of them signed up. I know Wizard is in, but one of the other two hasn't signed up. KidDraco is in now, so I will send out a message to koreancabbage if the other person doesn't sign up soon.

so here are the potential rule changes going down, as it stands right now on the polls:

continuous waivers with budget bidding. what this means is that each team will have an assigned budget to bid on FA acquisitions. each day, waivers will clear and the team with the highest bid will be awarded the player. to make it fair, I think that we should have dropped players remain on waivers for 3 days - not everyone gets to check everyday, so this way dropped players can be accessed by everyone.

bench spots stay the same at 5

veto process stays BUT the veto time reduces to 1 day - make sure that trades go through faster and we're not waiting nearly a week to get our new players

if anyone has objections to these changes, make your voice heard on the polls - there have only been 6-7 votes on each of the polls, meaning that only half of us are even paying attention to potential changes.

I initially said that the decisions on these rules would be made today, same day as keeper deadline, but with new members just getting in and such low voter turnout, I'll extend it until Friday before implementing any changes.

It's a season-long budget.

I first encountered it in fantasy football and think it's an interesting way to add a layer of strategy to the waiver process. Sometimes it's unfair that one manager has waiver priority over the next because of randomly generated rolling list. Managers can gauge the value of the players they want and go up against other managers. Let's say a player on waivers busts out - is it really fair that Team A gets that player because it's their turn to be at the top of the waiver list? It's a way of increasing fairness as well as adding a layer of strategy to the league.

Be smart with your budget. I think it's $100 (at least it is in fantasy football - not sure if I can toy with that yet). Most pickups you'll be able to bid $1 or $2 especially if you just pick guys up for a stat or two. It's unlikely that there will be too many massive breakouts worthy of a $40 bid.

PREDRAFT POWER RANKINGS

1. Swoop - After being doubted all year last year and keeping no players from the previous year, his draft class turned out to be the best of the best. He will not be taken lightly this year. Can this manager handle the pressure and draft another winner?

2. Gibby - Injuries hit him hard but this crafty manager did what it took to scrap his way to a 3rd place finish. Perhaps the best roster manager in the history of fantasy basketball, a weak draft will never set him back.

3. Brown Mamba - League newcomer nearly found a way to win the league last year. He typically goes after high profile players, so chemistry might become an issue. Can the team put it together again and make another run at a title? Personalities will have to take a backseat again if this is to happen.

4. Bob at York - The only team retaining a framework from last year, he could end up fielding the most athletic team in the league. LeBron James and Serge Ibaka will headline a defensive juggernaut, and Bob will hope to avenge a late-season collapse and regain his form from the early years of this league.

5. jsumadchat - Disappointing playoff run sets this competitive team back. Personalities clashed near the end of last year as everyone wanted to be the hero. Will not make the mistake of rostering locker-room cancer JaVale McGee again after McGee nailed the wife of star player Deron Williams.

6. Saddler the Gr8 - Impressive debut season placed him third in the standings but a playoff collapse landed him in 8th place. Players could not live up to the Team of Gr8ness dubbing and folded under the pressure.

7. Dol-Fan - Made a late season push for the playoffs but missed out by just a game. Injuries to Dwyane Wade, Zach Randolph, Ricky Rubio, and Marcus Thornton derailed a talented roster. He'll need to learn a lesson on acquiring and drafting injury prone players if he wants to return to the stardom that has brought him a league record 2 championships.

8. greg_ory - A consistent presence on the defensive end, this squad needs to make a push for more offense. Firing Kevin O'Neill was a great first step, but the manager will have to push his drafting boundaries in order to amend previous issues.

13. koreancabbage - Using "Gangnam Style" as his introduction song will be a poor motivator for his players. Expect this squad to get out to sluggish starts and have trouble winning games until he changes that lame introduction music.

Apparently it's because not everyone in your league was registered one hour before the draft began:


All teams must be in the league at least 1 hour prior to the draft. The only option is to reset the league draft, unfinalize the team list, and then invite the managers into the league.

I also read the server error response. I emailed yahoo and hopefully I get an answer soon.

If it is just a crap player that no one else wants, just bid $0 and it is like the old system, and you don't lose your waiver dollars.

The system is designed for more attractive FAs that other teams will go after. Say an under-the-radar rookie starts performing above expectations, like Markieff Morris last year. A few people go after him. You might want to bid more than $1 to ensure you get him. Another example: last year Gibby and I picked up Steve Blake on a Sunday multiple times for the extra assists - now, who gets him won't depend on waiver order, but on bids. If you really want those extra assists, you better put in a higher bid or you might not get him.

I don't think there is a way to change the silent bidding system. That is the point of the whole thing. I did a whole spiel on it a few pages back when swoop asked about it. Go back and read if you want to further understand the rationale behind it.

Yeah...on the acquisition page it says you must place a bid between $0-100. I've never done it, but I noticed that greg picked up a player without losing any waiver $, so I put 2 and 2 together...

POWER RANKINGS: WEEK 3

1. conway: Holy fack is right. Who woulda thunk conway, the king of stink, the master of disaster, the boss of loss, would be on top of the standings and power rankings this late in the year? A stellar draft has filled up the stat columns and propelled one of the fastest starts in recent memory.

2. jsumadchat: Safe draft should only get better when John Wall returns. Bogut may have been his one mistake, but Deron Williams, Tim Duncan, and Marc Gasol have been, as they always have, steady as they come. Getting JaVale McGee off his team was a huge bonus.

3. Saddler the Gr8: Harrison Barnes steadily improving, OJ Mayo breakout candidate of the year, this squad has all the talent. Safe bet to be in the top 3 all year.

4. Wizard: Stealthy pre-trade pick in James Harden has propelled this team to success, but it won't be long before JaVale McGee nails his woman and pisses this teams hopes of a championship down the toilet.

5. koreancabbage: Tons of volume scorers, putting up stats now, but I predict this team will begin to falter in the coming weeks, especially if Anthony Davis' injury woes linger.

6. Bob_at_York: Perhaps the best core in the league in LeBron James and Serge Ibaka has been supported by a stellar group of role players. Jrue Holiday has broken out, Dion Waiters has shown some serious signs, and Ryan Anderson has started out the season proving the doubters wrong.

7. Swoop: A bad week can't push the defending champ too far down the totem pole, but he certainly picked a risky squad on draft night. Wade is injured already, and that could be a lingering issue. If it is, this team will struggle after spending a high pick on the injured Derrick Rose.

8. KidDraco: No superstars but a group of very solid players, with more than half of his roster in the top 70 player rankings. Carmelo Anthony has been the leader of a strong group of players, but does this squad have the star power and grit to pull it off?

9. Mile High Champ: A bit of a hot start here, but this squad needs to show me more to move up the power rankings. Too much suckage for too long to put much stock into this. Expect a blowup real soon.

10. Eagles: Tons of injured players, which could help later in the season. Can he stick around long enough to remain in contention when they come back? With Eric Gordon's mysterious issues, one could imagine a long season for this squad.

11. Gibby: Mysteriously slow start for this perennial contender. Expect him to pick it up shortly, this squad is too talented and its manager too crafty to allow this to continue long-term.

12. Dol-fan: Was showing serious signs before the Lowry injury, and with Kevin Love on the return track, this squad should pick it up in no time. Though the slow starts are worrying, we all know that this squad wins the championship every other year, so luck will do its work as the season progresses.

13. CB: As talented a roster as this is, there are attitude problems all over the court. Monta Ellis, DeMarcus Cousins, Nick Young, and Tyreke Evans all want the ball in their hands. The manager is having trouble dealing with the personalities, and despite submitting an appeal to the league asking for games to be played with 4 balls instead of just 1, the players don't seem to be respecting this rookie manager. The selection of dispassionate Andrew Bynum has not helped club morale.

What's the point in having waiver dollars left at the end of the year? Better use 'em up if you feel a move can make a real difference.

Ya I guess when you look at it that way. I haven't even spent $1 yet lol. Im a pretty frugal guy though so even in fantasy its my instinct to save :laugh2:

The thing with Bynum though is that for the whole season thats like 3 or 4 games worth of stats you aren't getting each week. That can be the difference between winning and losing a few categories. If he doesn't end up playing then that could really hurt you in the standings by the end.

Thats the risk you run though I guess
