View Full Version : Where Does Calderon Fit In Best?

the Raptors have made it clear by making a trade for Lowery that they do not see Calderon a their starting PG, and since he is making as much as he is, they have made efforts to trade him. Rumours have arisen of a buy-out or possible amnesty being used on him, but nothing has come up. He's only 30 years old, is a great passer with a fantastic assist-to-turnover ratio, and though his shooting is down a little the past couple seasons, he is a guy that shot over 50% fromt he field, 40% from behind the arc and 90% from the charity stripe.

I expect him to end up wearing a Toronto uniform all season because the team seems unwilling to buy him out and unable to trade him, but my hope is that he is freed from his contract and is able to sign with a contender before the season starts. So my question is this; If Calderon is freed from his obligations in Toronto, or if they manage to find a trade partner, where woudl be the best fit for Calderon?

LAL sounds like a good landing spot, backing up Nash. He is, after all, Nash Jr. (great shooter, great passer, awful defender).

Miami would be a good fit, because he is such a great shooter, but Miami needs defence at that position, and Calderon would have to make a huge improvement in that area of his game. But Miami's PG rotation as is, is honestly not that impressive, and having another great 3pt shooter on the floor would stretch defences.

OKC could use him when Westbrook is resting. Having guys like Harden and Durant to pass to (which he NEVER had in Toronto) would be interesting to watch.

Where do you think Calderon would fit best?

As a back up on a contender :
Nets
Celtics
Spurs
Grizzlies
Lakers
Clippers
Thunder

As a starter and veteran presence in an ok team or a lottery team:
Magic
Bobcats
Pacers
Kings ( move tyreke to Sg)
Blazers ( while lillard develops)
Jazz
Wolves ( while ricky is out)

As a starter on a contender:
Heat
Bulls ( while Rose is out, then he is the 6th man when rose is back)
Mavs

Rest of teams doesnt really have an use for him.

Id personally want him

1 Lakers
2 Bulls
3 Mavs

the likeliest scenario tough is he gets traded by deadline to a team that wants to shed a bad contract and will be receptive to trade a good youngster or a pick along with it for his 10 million dollars EXPIRING.

If he isnt traded tough he is likely to sign back with them, cause he likes the city.
Would also be nice for Raps to have their first LIFER ( lifer that wasnt out of the league in 3 years i mean).

As a Raptors fan, I really don't care where we ship Calderon to, I would just like a fantastic return for the first Spanish fish that can play basketball.

Lakers, but don't see that happening as we really don't have anything that Toronto would want off that bench (we're not giving up Jamison or Hill), so maybe the Rockets?

They lost both Lowry and Dragic over the summer and have only Lin to show for it. Plus, Morey is in money saving mode so I'd assume he'd be enamored by Calderon's expiring 10+M

He'd be a great backup for a team like the Lakers, Nets, or Thunder

He'd also be good splitting PG minutes with Conley in Memphis.

If I'm the raptors, I do what I can to package Calderon with either Derozan (who they won't extend) and/or Bargnani and try to get a better piece going forward.

Calderon, Derozan and 2nd round pick for Rudy Gay.
Calderon, Bargs for Cousins

Well if Roy is back to his 2009 self the Twolves could be a top 3 seed.

If roy is back to his 2009 self it will be a disaster.

It will spark controversy with Love because its LOVES team ( for the moment).
And it will also create trouble with rubio because Roy wants to handle the ball at all times, making the PG job a nightmare ( ask Miller, Roy actually went up to Mcmillan asking for Miller to be benched)

Jose Calderon would be an upgrade in Atlanta over Jeff Teague, Devin Harris or Lou Williamson, in terms of running an offense. The Hawks could even take him and amnesty Harris.

Its funny because before this year I thought he'd be the perfect PG for Dwight. Over the summer he was saying he wanted to play with Pau for the Lakers. Maybe he signs a one year deal next year to be the backup to Nash.
