Sad news out of Memphis. Dana Davis, the Grizzlies vice president of basketball operations, was discovered dead in his apartment, reports the Memphis Commercial Appeal.

He was 56 and no foul play is suspected. He had not been seen since Tuesday afternoon and both Grizzlies employees and the Memphis police entered his apartment to find him, according to the CA.

Davis, nicknamed “Double D,” was in charge of development programs for the Grizzlies and plus he took care of the road accommodations and everything needed when the team traveled. He also was on the board of the National Civil Rights Museum.

Our condolences to the Grizzlies and Davis family.

If he was a Vice President why would he be living in an apartment?

Think he was fairly recently promoted. Who knows ? Maybe easier to rent.
Knew him a little bit. Hate that this has happened. He really watched out for the players. Met him with OJ first time 4 years ago. Nice man who will be missed.

Not to knock the people or city of Memphis but I wouldn't call it the most desirable place to live. It could be possible he has an apartment close by for work and lives elsewhere full time.

Either way sad story. Wish his family, team and the city all the best.

Memphis is actually a beautiful city and many downtown riverside condos are rented or owned by team personnel. The family guys live out in the burbs.
But maybe you know much more about a city that I've lived in for years?
At least you were respectful to Double D in the end.

I apologize, it wasn't meant to be an attack on the city or people. I was trying to be polite. I for one can attest to beautiful parts of the city as I've been multiple times. Great food as well. In my comments, I was referring more towards the crime rate and not the aesthetics of the city. Either way I still mourn for the team and fans alike.
